Nero is a great operating system, it only lacks some good burning solution.

What about Ghosthunter's CD/DVD Burning?

Get Ashamphoo Burning Studio 8 for free...........its lighter and better.
#3.1 EL1TE on 11 Nov 2007 - 19:26
I don't buy a Nero product since version 6, i've discovered Ashampoo Burning Studio, much more faster and simple to use than Nero and don't use the monstruous amount of memory that Nero use.

And Ashampoo is in version 7 not 8 lol, but i hope they release a version 8 of Burning Studio.
#3.2 Avi on 11 Nov 2007 - 19:52
Last time I checked Ashampoo wasn't free either...
#3.3 ThaCrip on 11 Nov 2007 - 20:15
i heard good things about Ashampoo ... but why use that when you got high quality alternatives like IMGBurn (only drawback with this program is for burning basic data cd's/dvd's it aint optimal at times but it's a reliable program you can depend on) for audio i just use Burrrn.

If you pay attention to posts in here this was mentioned awhile ago. Ashampoo offers tons of free stuff.

I've buyed version 7 of Ashampoo, aswell i'm a subscriber and they send new e-mails each day, and i din't see any about Ashampoo Burning Studio 8.

IF Ashampoo BS8 was already out i'm sure it was already at Neowin.

And if that is Free how do you explain this:

This download offer expires 08/11/2007.
?

Edit: Wow, this version is older than the one that we can find at the official site:

This version doesn't appear to have DVD (video) burning. It seems to be less capable than Burning Studio 7, because they have an option to "Upgrade" to Burning Studio 7 (for $12.49).

f**k ashampoo burning studio it damaged my 4 DVDs, its too much buggy, most of the time can't burn properly. Nero* & Roxio r best.

*Nero 8 is still too much buggy.
#4 kiddingguy on 11 Nov 2007 - 19:20
The build-in updater also mentions this version, however... it's doesn't look at the installation-folder Nero 8 was installed in.
I had in installed into D:Nero and the update places itself into Crogram filesNero

Damn updater... uninstalling now and reinstalling via the offline installer....

Crap!!.....Go get CDBurnerXP......a lot smaller than this Nero PreShit, never crashes....!!!

#6.1 th3rEsa on 11 Nov 2007 - 20:46
Daily crashes here.
#6.2 ThaCrip on 12 Nov 2007 - 02:55
that CDBurnerXP sounds like a solid app but based on what i hear people say it still needs to be tweaked a little more as i heard it has issues in rather basic cd/dvd burning from what i heard.
#6.3 xan K on 12 Nov 2007 - 04:02
I've got Vista and I've been using CDBurnerXP and has never crashed! It's a very nice burner and it's the only one I'm using. If it had bugs, they must've been ironed out already.

thanks for the info... but for now ill stick with IMGBurn since i KNOW thats going to work as it was made by same guy who made dvd decrypter ... my main complaint with imgburn is the burning standard data dvd's/cd's with it since it has limits on what you can do like u cant create folders inside the program to put on a recordable disc etc.. but if you just burn a few files and add a few folders that you already have on the pc then i highly recommend using imgburn... even burrrn is pretty good for audio cd's.

although thats where i see CDBurnerXP is superior since you dont need 2 apps for burning general stuff plus it's interface etc is better setup for more controll over the adding folders and creating folders etc.
#7 godzila on 11 Nov 2007 - 20:53
what changelog? yes cdburnerxp its nice small nice nero its sux i use alternative cdburnerxp pro its free nero it's not free turn nero free roks

How's the streaming feature? Does it transcode XviD and the like?
#8.1 ThaCrip on 12 Nov 2007 - 02:56
my advice is if you want to convert dvd to xvid... just get Gordian Knot as it does a great job... it just aint super easy to use but it's not hard once you know what to do.

it makes top quality rips

He didn't say anything about ripping.

He asked about streaming previously encoded content via transcoding.

#9.1 hapbt on 12 Nov 2007 - 14:29
first of all im pretty sure ashampoo is just an old version of nero licensed / bought by ashampoo
so its buggy and has less features and crashes more, thats one reason
another reason is that nero is awesome, nero vision and recode and totally awesome
people complain about it being 200mb but when you consider how much stuff youre getting its amazing, nero is a real value!

If you want to try one on the best really FREE burning solution, and open source, look at InfraRecorder, by the creator of TugZip. This software is wonderfull, really stable. The interface is similar to Nero, but really really lighter.
#10.1 ThaCrip on 12 Nov 2007 - 09:01
i took your advice and went and downloaded it and even though i aint burned anything with it yet.. just playing around with it i got high hopes for it... as like you said it loads up pretty dang fast and just has a good feel to the program.... to bad i got alot of trust in IMGBurn lol... otherwise theres a good chance this InfraRecorder program could become my new standard burning app ... i think this is almost for sure better than CDBurnerXP just cause it dont use that damn .net stuff alone and it loads up much faster.

also they just released there v0.44 a couple days ago ... so it appears it has updates fairly often?

The programmer is very active, and yes, it's often updated. I used too cdburnerxp pro before, but it was really bugy on my computer. I'm surprised that neowin didn't speak about Infrarecorder. It's surely become a reference in the near future.
#11 LaXu on 12 Nov 2007 - 08:54
Nero just gets more and more bloated every version. Who the hell wants to download over 200 MB just to get the Burning ROM app? Thank God some people do the Nero Lite version.

Is there any free Vista compatible burning software that does DVD Video as well?
#12 Panarchy on 12 Nov 2007 - 09:52
I remember downloading this when it was 8.0.1 (something)

It sucked

The only good thing about it was the icons.

Nero 7 was way better.

How does it compare now?

Nero Micro...

I wonder why people are still using this crap, when there's Nero Micro (link provided by "Wikan"....or even Nero Lite.....

Ashampoo don't use Nero as a base for their own. They developed it themsolves, making sure it looks similar to Nero to convince Nero users to change to Ashampoo.

Actually I've been using Ashampoo and it is a very perfect solution. I have never had any problems with it. Some say that it "coasters" their CD/DVD's, that's their machine at fault because I've been using it and have no coasters.

QFT. I use Ashampoo products alot, and the burning suite is quite good. I just hope it doesn't go the way of Nero's and gets all bloated next year :|

infrarecorder its a very good alternative its interface its like the good OL easy cd creator and its reliable and use less resources, other than that nero 8 micro for those that want to use nero avoid the full nero at all cost

for some unknown reason InraRecorder consumes 100% of my CPU when I'm burning a DVD. too bad, it looks like a very nice app.

Well, wait for the next release, it's in development actually, and it's only the 0.44 version. You can either report the bug, so it'will be possible to correct it quickly. I installed it on 3 computers, and hopefully i didn't have this problem.
