CCleaner (Crap Cleaner) is a freeware system optimisation tool. That removes unused and temporary files from your system - allowing it to run faster, more efficiently and giving you more hard disk space. The best part is that it's fast! (normally taking less that a second to run) and Free.

Cleans the following:

  • Internet Explorer Cache, History, Cookies, Index.dat.
  • Recycle Bin, Temporary files and Log files.
  • Recently opened URLs and files.
  • Third-party application temp files and recent file lists (MRUs).
  • Including: Firefox, Opera, Media Player, eMule, Google Toolbar, Netscape, Office XP, Nero, Adobe Acrobat, WinRAR, WinAce, WinZip and more...
  • Advanced Registry scanner and cleaner to remove unused and old entries.
  • Including File Extensions, ActiveX Controls, ClassIDs, ProgIDs, Uninstallers, Shared DLLs, Fonts, Help Files, Application Paths, Icons, Invalid Shortcuts and more... Backup for registry clean.
  • Windows Startup tool.

Very nice, but I always download the slim version without the stupid toolbar.

It gives you the option to uncheck it when you install it. Its that simple. I just updated mine from here.

Yeah but for what it's worth - the slim version is 1/4 the size of the version that includes the stupid toolbar.

Indeed. Especially when you've got your memory stick crammed with useful apps/software and want to minimise every exe to cram more stuff on.

This will certainly get rid of some headache.

If you remove the files for Desktop Search, it will NOT let you uninstall it.

CCleaner 2 is too slow as compared to version 1.4. I had to switch back to version 1.4.

Just a warning. This installer is borked. I checked this with multiple downloads of the same file and on several systems. Even though I unchecked the option to install Yahoo Toolbar it continues to install it no matter what. I hope the developers read this.
