Free (released under the GNU General Public License) disk defragment and optimize utility for Windows 2000/2003/XP/Vista/X64. Completely automatic and very easy to use, fast, low overhead, with two optimization strategies, and can handle floppies and USB disks/sticks. Included are a Windows version, a commandline version (for scheduling by the task scheduler or for use from administrator scripts), a screensaver version, a DLL library (for use from programming languages), and versions for Windows X64. JkDefrag is based on the standard defragmentation API by Microsoft, a system library that is included in Windows 2000, 2003, XP, and Vista. All defragmenters are based on this API, including commercial defragmenters. JkDefrag is therefore very solid and there is no risk of losing data. You can stop the program at any time, it will finish the current file in the background. If your disks use NTFS then you're even safe when the computer crashes in the middle of defragging. Nevertheless, it's still a good idea to backup before defragmenting, just like with other defragmenters, because the heavy use of the harddisk may trigger a hardware fault.
What's New:
- Fixed a bug in the Windows version that for some users caused the display of the diskmap to get stuck.
- Fixed a bug in the forced-fill optimization that caused the program to skip fragments that were left by filling a gap with a part of the fragment.
- If the volumename of a disk cannot be determined then the program will now fallback to using the mountpoint of a volume to open a handle.
- If the user specifies a short input mask without a wildcard, for example "C:" or "C:", then the input mask is rewritten as "C:*".
- Fixed a bug where the special "DisableDefaults" spacehogs mask only disabled the masks, but not the "Files bigger than 50 megabytes"" and "Files not accessed in the last month" criteria.
- Bundled some language-specific SpaceHogs masks into "?:*Installshield Installation Information*".
- Moved the "Volume ID" message for FAT disks from debug level zero to 6.

cause once i realized this and stoped obsessing over defraging the hard drive etc... i use JKDefrag as my main defraging program now.... as it's "FREE" and does a solid job in terms of quick defrag with maximum performance without taking a year to defrag and less HDD wear etc in general.
p.s. the first use of JKDefrag it's recommend to use the "-a 9" (without the " ) switch which takes a while to defrag, then after that you just use the default settings for fast defrags

I do
cause differences between a full defrag and a quick one (which is the default in jkdefrag) is MINIMAL in real world performance... probably fractions of a second (maybe a second ish tops most likely)
Working on it.
