I dunno, QQ has been around since February 1999 -- MSN 1.0 came out in July 1999. That said -- The 'new UI' does look pretty similar to WLM 8.5+

Oh and I might add the home page has some amusing Chinese English.

Eww... This sounds horrible... "pets, ringtone downloads, etc." Why would anybody want a pet (Neopets and their various clones and their various children all exist for that purpose, right?) for instant messaging? And why would I even WANT to download a ringtone from my messenger? No thanks. If I want a pet, I'll just use with my Giga Pet (despite being a guy, I still enjoy these cool devices) and for ringtones I'll use normal methods of obtaining them (i.e. downloading via ringtone sites or downloading directly to my phone).

You aren't getting what these guys are trying to do here. You'd be surprised to find out how reliant to IM services some people have become, and wouldn't it be much more convenient or even cost effective to have a unified messaging solution across the PC and mobile platforms? So they have a good reason of implementing mobile features, such as ringtone downloads, and I believe they have tied Tencent QQ with mobile devices closely for years in China. As regards to the pet feature, I'd imagine that it functions like an RPG game with all of the leveling up and damages, etc. Got the analogy from your name, by the way, and I'm kinda surprised you didn't think of it that way yourself.

A rip it might be, but it's much faster and better than WLM in usage...

Care to elaborate on why better than WLM?

If you look at both products in Wikipedia then maybe you (finally) think this isn't a rip-off of WLM, in fact, is WLM which is a rip-off of this one, not only in visual but in features, just read about both on the internet.

And about the pets you don't need to have one, at least is better than the Ads in WLM (no i don't have one, because i don't even use instant messengers).

Is there any Messenger out there having VoIP like realtime voice or we'll have to live with echo effects...?
