Encryption has been used for as long as people have been talking and wishing to keep their communications secret. Examples range from trans- position cyphers used by the Spartan military to more modern techniques like DES and AES.

Nowadays people have not one, but dozens of passwords. It can be hard to remember them, and you might lose precious data when you forget them. With PixelCryptor you can encrypt your files and folders with the use of an image.

New in version 1.1:
• Added: Attribute support for files and folders
• Added: Ability to create a new folder in the package
• Added: Ability to automatically delete the original file/folders
• Added: Ability to add multiple files at once when creating package
• Added: Human readable header in the file format
• Changed: 32bit color requirement; lowered to 16bit color
• Solved: 2 second freeze when the crypting process starts

This program is no different than any program which uses a keyfile. The only difference is instead of using the data in a keyfile, it uses the pixels in an image as the key.
The problem with doing this is you have to keep the image file somewhere. This is no more secure than writing your password in a text file - As soon as somebody has the file, they have what they need to decrypt it.

TrueCrypt can use any kind of file for a key - picture, audio, video, etc. How is this one different, if it is?

Hmmm... pixels, does this mean that it will treat different types of lossless file formats (PNG, TIFF, ...) of the same picture as valid keys?

EDIT:

I've just tried it, and I see the difference now, - it really does use pixel information instead of the raw data.

It is not at all clear from the description, what this program is meant to accomplish.

It uses the pixel information in an image to encrypt a set of files/folders into a package.

This appears to only work on windows vista(x64). Not in a 32 bit windows XP

Edit....
I downloaded from the creators web site directly and it works, but if I try to download it via download.com it doesn't work!

Download.com isn't up-to-date yet (still version 1.0).
Both 1.0 and 1.1 should work under Windows 2000/XP and Vista.

You need .NET Framework 2.0.
