Miranda IM is a multi protocol instant messenger client for Windows. Miranda IM uses very little memory and is extremely fast. It requires no installation and can be fitted on a single floppy disc. Its powerful plugin system makes Miranda IM very flexible. Only the most basic features are built in, but there are currently more than 350 free plugins available for download that allows users to extend the functionality of Miranda IM.

The major change in this 0.8 series is the new Plugin API. Expect that some of your plugins won't work anymore; most plugin authors already released compatible versions, though.

Caution:
This is beta software, there might be some serious bugs.

One thing that I get confused with all these IMs is with "Voice/Video" chat. How many of MultiProto IMs capable of voice/video? Trillian was the last one I knew, pidgin appers great in Text based conversations but voice/video, nothing mentioned about it in the home page. :\

Miranda IM is capable of voice/video with other Miranda IM users. Via particular plugins, of course.
That's one of its advantages: No bloat.

I think it has potential, but they really have to include skinning plugins with the install. I've tried to use it on a few occasions, but the UI needs serious work.

Skinning plugins are already included.
Tried tabsrmm.dll (skinned message window) and clist_modern.dll/clist_nicer.dll (skinned contact lists)?

There are a lot of skins avaible for users who want them. (e.g. deviantart)
All you need is Scriver or TabSRMM an a skinable contactlist like clist_modern
e.g. my Miranda:

Since google chat started allowing AIM sign on within the gmail window that's all I have been using. *convenience

Before that I used Pidgin. I think I tried Miranda, didn't care for it, but thats my opinion.
