VideoLAN is an excellent multimedia player with it's own plugins for playing different formats, so it doesn't need any codecs to be installed. It works great for previewing partially downloaded files too as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.

The nightly builds are tempting...
It's, at least, a step into the right direction (mplayer-like) but, however, away from VLC's original intention (a simple streaming client)...
Too bad they are not stable, at least not for me on XP64.

Not stable for me either. Too bad, they are lookin quite nice.
Preferences icons are a tad huge though, lol, but the gui layout is lookin awsome.
I may try a nightly from time to time, but lookn forward to final, or at least a working nightly.
cause thats why i stoped using it and switched to players like 'The KMPlayer' or 'GOM Player' etc
EDIT.... i just tested myself and it's still screwed up... at first it worked fine but i found out it had to have something to do with having .mkv players like The KMPlayer etc etc installed cause once i uninstalled those and rebooted and installed VLC it no longer can skip forward with the slider bar on .mkv files anymore.
so back to KMPlayer for me as my primary player as that just works with almost everything a high percentage of the time unless VLC that cant even play .mkv files properly.

your right, but i just prefer to not load 'extra' (aka FFDShow etc etc) stuff when using MPC thats why i use The KMPlayer as it plays just about every format... main advantage with MPC over KMPlayer is it's slightly quicker to load but all in all i think KMPlayer is just a superior video player as it has many more options in it to.
