- It's still by far the best audio player for Windows.

- +1 , you got that right! , but only if you mean the 'lite' version which is here... http://download.nullsoft.com/winamp/client...53_lite_all.exe
p.s. is there any unofficial places that offer winamp but without all that crap in the installer? (like basically just the program stuff itself, none of the ads etc etc stuff in it)

I think The full version (Although with none of the toolbar crap installed) is fine It uses no cpu and like 12 mb ram and has a decent library and ipod support ect.. which I find incredibly convenient because iTunes SUCKS. -

you just have to keep your eyes open and uncheck that stuff in the installer. specifically that page of offers and the remote media (same as orb/winamp remote), now playing and dashboard plugins. if you don't like the ads in shoutcast you can get adblocking software for IE, or a better hosts file that blocks them (one is even on the Winamp forums put together by the community for this very purpose).

Download winamp PRO, yes you don't have pro or a serial number but install it, it will ask for a code but click 'later' or something and you have the fully basic working winamp (NOT PRO! This will NOT get you PRO for free!
without the crap
I'm still using 5.15 or something, before the gracenote song ID (which has so far identified every song WRONG, it ID'd a track off NYE-NEC 05-06 as classical... CLASSICAL!? WHAT!
junk -

- Foobar2000 is the best Windows player, in my opinion.

- Now Winamp wants to make itself the default search engine during setup as well as the other previous "questionable" components.
I can't stand applications with borderline spyware/adware crap in them. No matter how many check boxes they give me to uncheck it's still not right/ethical. -
#5.1 Posted by RADicaLMMS on 28 Mar 2008 - 07:37
- Just uncheck the box, they're not quietly forcing anything on anyone.

- This version refuses to play wavs for some reason. Anyone else had this happen?
-
#6.1 Posted by RADicaLMMS on 28 Mar 2008 - 07:39
- Wavs play fine here.

- Anyway I can resample audio files natively to 48,000 KHz or 96,000 KHz like FFDShow audio can?

- People still use Winamp? Yeesh, I left it when they basically refused to add DAAPD support to it. No plans on looking back.
