A new version of the Firefox Web browser is scheduled for release Tuesday with improvements in security, speed and design.

Many of the enhancements in Firefox 3 involve bookmarks. The new version lets Web surfers add keywords, or tags, to sort bookmarks by topic. A new "Places" feature lets users quickly access sites they recently bookmarked or tagged and pages they visit frequently but haven't bookmarked.

There's also a new star button for easily adding sites to your bookmark list - similar to what's already available on Microsoft Corp.'s Internet Explorer 7 browser.

Other new features include the ability to resume downloads midway if the connection is interrupted and an updated password manager that doesn't disrupt the log-in process.

Any word on the google browser sync? Testers have said it doesn't work with FF3. Are there any comparable alternatives?

Shouldn't the source be from the developers?

I've never seen any other browser
that is very useful just for the free addons alone.

Not to mention the pro-active Firefox team fixing ANY security bug.

Had Firefox have the same Apple Safari Carpet Bombing Security Flaw,
I'm 100% confident the Firefox Team will address it ASAP.

Stick to Firefox guys, they care for us.

yay /sarcasm.

It's about damn time they told us. I mean they should have told us when they did the download pledge thing...

My only gripe with ff3 is the god damn drop down address bar, takes too much space. Other than that, it's not bad

First off they had to allow it some time to iron out any bugs.

Secondly the AwesomeBar is one of the best things to happen to browsers ever. It's why I don't use Safari.

I've heard rumor that IE8 beta 2 is scheduled for August of this year, so I'm guessing the final release won't be until the 4th quarter of this year or 1st quarter of next year.

Back to the original topic: I've been looking forward to the rendering performance upgrade of this FF release and I'll be very happy Tuesday when I can start using the new version.

Hopefully this means microsoft will be releasing a WMP plugin that actually works.

Released on my birthday! Heck of a present. Thanks, Mozilla!

I'll be installing this release since the family is attached to FF and i like it a lot . However I've been using the Opera 9.5 for three days now and feeling pretty comfortable with it so far. Still tweaking it to my taste but it's been working great.

Tested FF3 RC2, and too many of the add-ons don't work in FF3. Until those authors update the plugins, I have to stick with FF2. I can't live without some of those add-ons, they spoiled me. And some of the add-ons might not get updated at all if the authors abandoned them.

Just turn off extension compatibility checking and see if your extensions work then.

Between Nightly Tester Tools and Mr Tech Local Install you should be able to keep all your old extensions and add new ones that supposedly aren't compatible.
