- Apple's free Remote application is amazing! You can control iTunes or Apple TV from your iPhone or iPod touch. It lets you browse by artist, album, playlist, or whatever. You can even enable and disable remote speakers.

- Indeed great. Now if it only worked for other players too, and not only iTunes... worst thing if it comes for music and video on a PC

- I have neither an iPhone nor an iPod touch, nor have any plans of purchasing one. Why did Apple see fit to force this "amazing" remote application on me, without so much as a peep mentioning it was being installed? 4 background services for a piece of software I use to plunk music and a few movies onto my iPod Classic...seems like a bit of overkill.

- I ran apple software update and no new updates showed up, except for safari. Then I went into itunes and did the "check for updates" from there and it told me that: "This version of iTunes (7.6.2) is the current version." Quite odd... I guess I'll try again tomorrow

- Mine didn't work via Software Updater, but I got it off the Apple site. Come on, iPod touch 2.0 firmware!

Double agree. Don't and won't own one of these piece of junks just for that reason.
Try my best to talk people out of buying ipods and uninstalling this crap software/bloatware. -

- The amount of (pointless) processes really bugs me too and there is no option to make the player not install them. Even if my PC can pull it off I agree that it's way to heavy and since I don't own a iAnything it feel sreally pointless to use if you just want to play some songs.
I also get the feeling it works much better on a Mac, we are talking intentionally works better. -

- Could you please name those processes? I remember back when I had Windows, I had a process called iTunes.exe running, nothing else, and never had any problem.

I think it's (with current memory working set on my PC in brackets)
iTunesHelper.exe (11,840K)
iTunes.exe (70,540K)
AppleMobileDeviceHelper.exe (17,696K)
distnoted.exe (4,388K)
And as for services...
AppleMobileDeviceService.exe (2,604K)
mDNSResponder.exe (3,232K)
iPodService.exe (4,200K)

- I used 7zip and extracted the files to a folder and then deleted all the 'extras' except "Quicktime" and "SetupAdmin". Then I ran iTunes and unchecked the 'extras'. Nice and "lite" install.

- So...it's really that easy? So why in the hell can't Apple just offer slimmer packages depending on what people want? Oh, wait, that would involve some thought and choice...two things that Apple aren't known for fostering.

- By the way, has anyone else got the same problem as me; when you click on your iPod's info tab (mine's an iPod touch) where is has Check for Updates, Restore, etc, the bar down the bottom is just orange? Before, music was blue, etc, but now it's all just in the "other" category. Doesn't worry me at all, but just wondering if it's only me.

- Humm £5 to update the iPod Touch firmware. Rip off?
Glad there is a simple way of getting the firmware for free. What are Apple thinking?

- iTunes Light v7.7 - Do It Yourself
1) Download and install Quicktime Alternative
2) Download iTunes 7.7 installer
3) Using winrar or 7zip open the iTunes installer
4) Unpack everything to a new folder
5) Delete everything except iTunes and iTunes Admin Setup
6) Double click on iTunes.msi
7) During the setup a window saying "Quicktime...blabla" will appear... just click Ok.
8 ) You're done!
I did it with an older version and it works flawlessly. Im not sure if it should work the same. If it doesn't just install Apple Quicktime with it.

- Did this update kill anyone else's iPod. I have an 4th generation with color screen and 20GB hard drive. After I updated to iTunes 7.7, and went to sync my iPod, all I got was the "Do not disconnect" screen. It hung on that screen for like an hour, before I was finally (after about a hundred tries) able to reboot the iPod. I hooked it back up, and the same thing is happening again. Since Apple is pretty much useless when it comes to this stuff, is there any advise any can offer ... other than throw this damned thing out a window. Would be very much appreciated.

- It worked fine on my XP machine. On my Vista machine the iPod was no longer recognized. There was some kind of driver issue. I had to uninstall the Apple USB driver for it to start working again.

- Yup this update killed my 5th generation 30GB iPod. I updated to iTunes 7.7 yesterday, plugged my iPod in and ta da, I have zero music, videos, playlist, podcasts etc on my iPod. It says it has the same amount of GB (as what was being taken up by music) is now being taken up by 'Other' stuff so somethings on there, I just don't know what!
It would be a major hassle to get the music back from their original sources so I'm most concerned with getting this music back from where ever Apple has put it.
Tried contacting Apple but they're no help at all.
Have searched the net for any similar problems but no one seems to know how to fix it.
I've tried uninstalling iTunes 7.7 and then reinstalling iTunes 7.6.2 but it won't open for me as it gives this message
"The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

- My machine is XP Pro. The software installed fine, but the iPod continues to hang everytime I go to sync. With so many problems with this version, thinking I might just wait to the next version to update my music on my iPod. Thanks for the advise though. Will look at the Apple USB driver to see if maybe reinstalling will do the trick.
