DesktopX is a program that lets users extend their Windows desktop to support true objects (as opposed to just icons). These objects can be cosmetic in nature or using a plugin or some scripting a user can make a desktop object do virtually anything. These objects can then be combined together to make widgets or used to build an entirely new desktop.

DesktopX 3.5 isn't just a Vista update, however. It allows users to export their creations as Windows sidebar gadgets! This is significant because by default, Sidebar gadgets tend to be limited in functionality. DesktopX objects, however, have no limitations, a user can make plugins in C++ or virtually any other language allowing Sidebar gadgets to be incredibly powerful. DesktopX 3.5 also includes a completely revamped website along with a major overhaul of the DesktopX documentation.

DesktopX is available stand-alone, or part of Object Desktop.

Have you seen some of the things it can create? The ability to export Vista sidebar gadgets is useful enough.

sorry to say, but if he thinks its useless and wishes to share that then he is more than welcome to. Take the good with the bad.

@ Avatar Viper it'd be good to get some feedback, and say whether you've tried it or not.

Exactly, however neowin is sometimes like Fox and O'Reily (our counterpart is Brad Wardell) might ban you/call the cops/fbi for giving his products negative feedback.

Oh please. No one from Stardock (including myself) removes comments or bans people simply for giving negative feedback. The Neowin rules are enforced equally on the site. *I* certainly do not delete comments or ban people just because they have an opinion.

That said, anyone who would call DesktopX "useless" is, at best, probably not very technical. It's like saying C# is "usless".

I've been banned countless times and have had my comments edited so that the content was removed just for keeping a discussion going. I've also had a few 30 day bans simply for proving the old windowblinds from years ago did slow down pc's.

C# is useless, Java is far better IMO and doesn't cost thousands of dollars (its free) for a M$ monopoly dev kit.

You weren't banned for giving an opinion or "proving" something. You were banned for for violating the TOS of Neowin countless times. If you seriously believe you get banned for having "incorrect" thoughts then perhaps this isn't the site for you. We don't ban people for having opinions, we ban them for violating the posted rules (usually countless times).

As for "C# is useless" I think that says more about your techncial capability than anything about C# itself. If you dislike Microsoft so much, why do you use Windows?

Where did I write anywhere that I used Windows? And speaking of technical capability why hasn't Stardock figured out how to make an uninstaller that doesn't require a reboot of windows yet? It's only been 4 years since my last review complained about it. Theres spyware removal tools that can remove rootkits without rebooting! Is windowblinds worse than a rootkit?
