Thanks Maikel for posting this on our forum.

Pidgin is a multi-protocol Instant Messaging client that allows you to use all of your IM accounts at once.

So why to use it under Windows, compared to, let's say, Miranda or something?
Pidgin is basically missing a wide range of plug-ins..

I don't miss anything. That's why I use it

Both Miranda and Pidgin are good, but tbh, I prefer Pidgin's simpleness over Miranda's cluster**** of settings and horrible default theme.
To each their own. =p

I tried Miranda before I tried Pidgin and I found Miranda too hard to configure on my corporate network to connect to MSN, etc. or to copy to other PCs, and the IRC support was a bit lacking IMO. Pidgin is the right IM for me.

Pidgin has come far...

i would use it if it wasnt so plain and boring looking. i prefer windows live.
#4.1 th3rEsa on 19 Aug 2008 - 14:24
Use Miranda instead, its look can be configured in any way. However, I seriously doubt that you can use the Windows Live Messenger to chat with ICQ and Jabber contacts.

I use Pidgin because of the simple, functional UI.

I recently moved from Live Messenger to Pidgin, part of my plan to eventually move to Linux completely.
#5.1 Jeremy of Many on 19 Aug 2008 - 16:34
Yes, I am also moving to alternative freeware / open-source software and trying Linux Distributions such as Ubuntu.
Some have recommended Red Hat.
These days are very exciting times for general/intermediate users to make the above mentioned changes.

I can't stand how crappy WLM has gotten (even with apatch).

Pidgin is just what I need. Clean and simple.
#7 cork1958 on 19 Aug 2008 - 14:59
Yep,
Have to agree with you all who like the plain and simple!!

Going to have to see how this operates in Windows. I like it in Linux.

Edit:
Checked it out in Windows.
Nope, not for me there. Much better in Linux.

- Ability to create custom smileys
- Personal messages are now supported. They are treated as status messages.
- Offline IM is now supported

Oh, snap! Pidgin FTW!
This might actually bring Pidgin up to my wife's standard. The world stands still... but for only a moment...

pidgin is nice but i noticed it eats more and more ram the longer it's running on Vista which never appeared to happened on WinXP.

ill test new version 2.5 and see if anything changed.

either way it's been my default IM program since it was galled gaim a while back.

It's not doing that for me. Did you update or do a clean install? (I updated.)

diablos! removieron el "Has you: Yes/No" que apareca en el pop up de extra info cuando pasabas el mouse encima de un contacto

Developers removed in Pidgin 2.50 the line "Has you: Yes/No" that appeared in the extra info pop up when you hovered the mouse on a buddy in your contact list ( I'm using 2 MSN accounts at the same time in Vista64 SP1)
(sorry for my English)

that was a nice feature, bring it back please

Thi is a great application, the only thing that is missing is skype (at least text messaging) support
#12.1 Jeremy of Many on 20 Aug 2008 - 16:35
That is why you install Skype.
I see your point, though. It is like having an MSN and Yahoo account and using Pidgin for the MSN part but still using Yahoo IM client.
