Encryption has been used for as long as people have been talking and wishing to keep their communications secret. Examples range from trans- position cyphers used by the Spartan military to more modern techniques like DES and AES.

Nowadays people have not one, but dozens of passwords. It can be hard to remember them, and you might lose precious data when you forget them. In PixelCryptor you choose a picture and use it to combine your files into a package. The pixel data is used to encrypt your data, the combinations are endless and hard to break.

Changes in version 1.2:
• Improved: Enormous speed boost in encoding/decoding
• Improved: Better memory management
• Fixed: Bug fixes related to the file view
• Added: New installation process
• Added: Help file included

Sure, neat idea...
But why should i use this and not TrueCrypt which supports keyfiles and a lot more?
This just doesn't feel secure.

The focus of TrueCrypt is to encrypt an entire volume.
You can use PixelCryptor to encrypt a set of files using a photo from your holidays or whatever you like and send it to a friend who has the exact same photo. It's far more complicated to crack than just a regular password.

Just a small fast freeware application, aimed at usability and I challenge anyone to crack it

What's so difficult to crack? You can write a program which tests every image file on the drive until one works. This can be cracked within a matter of minutes.
However, I do think this is a good program for the average user. Most people wouldn't take the time to better protect their data, but this program makes it easy enough that they might just use it.
As for me, I'll stick with my "regular password".

That's cracking the user , not the encoding. I guess cracking the data (without image) is near to impossible.
And what good is a key, if not stored properly. The internet is a nice place to hide your key instead of your drive.

Thnx, I do hope that this program lowers the bar a bit for users to encrypt their files.
