7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio and is open source software. Most of the source code is under the GNU LGPL license. The unRAR code is under a mixed license: GNU LGPL + unRAR restrictions. Check license information here: 7-Zip license.

You can use 7-Zip on any computer, including a computer in a commercial organization. You don't need to register or pay for 7-Zip. But you can make a donation to support further development of 7-Zip.

best FREE compression program out there in my opinion

to bad it dont tune it's interface to be a little more simple like WinRAR... but other than that it's hard to complain overall.

I wish he would fix the shell integration on windows. I really hate when 7-zip suggests to expand files that are not compressed files. That's what keeps me from using it full as my sole software for compression.

There was a guy that solved it for the developer a few years ago for a couple of versions but Igor didn't use the help so he stopped. He only seemed to care about the compression ratio.

Other than that, superb!!
