Hmm, anyone notice that when installing these on Windows 7 (using vista x64 version) it shows as Windows 7 Nvidia in the installer? I like what i'm seeing

It's nothing to get excited about, it's just a string of text identifying the OS. Also I highly doubt these are WDDM 1.1 compliant, therefore are not fully compatibile with Windows 7. I'm waiting for a new WDDM 1.1 driver to come through, that should be nice.
#1.2 ShadowlineDesigns on 23 Jan 2009 - 18:14
But either way it means that they are taking a step in the Windows 7 direction early (I know they have been pretty good in the past getting the beta drivers out.) I also do doubt that it has the WDDM in it, but I do hope for the future.

you can get a prerelease wddm 1.1 nvida and ati driver right from windows update in windows 7.
#1.4 GP007 on 23 Jan 2009 - 23:29
Those prerelease wddm 1.1 drivers don't show that much of a change though. Both companies should update those now that the beta is out to so many people.

Another nvidia driver?! damn you ATI... your drivers are giving me hell..

My next gpu will be nvidia
#2.1 ThaCrip on 23 Jan 2009 - 18:19
exactly... i always liked Nvidia since there days of Geforce 2

never used another brand since and unless something drastic happens i dont see me changing from Nvidia anytime soon.

p.s. oldest graphics card i bought was a '3DFX Voodoo 4MB' video card back in 1996-97 (this was pretty much the first 'good' graphics card made for the PC )

Not to sound fanboy'ish but going with MS's own crash statistics, nVidia drivers are the cause of the majority of Windows BSODs compared to ATi.

Make of that what you will.

that would not have anything to due with the sheer volume of people using Nvidia graphics cards would it?
#2.4 GP007 on 25 Jan 2009 - 00:22
I don't think the market difference is as great as you think it is.

Honestly, drivers from both parties have their share of problems. But my experiences w/ both indicate that nVidia drivers have far more severe issues. Its like nVidia uses us as alpha testers (well they're beta releases) and ATI uses us as beta testers.

For whatever reason, this driver as well as the last WHQL release made my system fail to boot. It tries, but never gets to the login screen, just a black screen.

I'm stuck using an older beta driver.

There was a new driver about a week ago or so, is this one just an update for Mirror's Edge?
#4.1 tommy_vercetti on 23 Jan 2009 - 18:05
Yes, so true, can be skipped if you do not have any issues, but recommended for the newer PhysX

Only GeForce 6 and newer are supported. It's been that way since 2006. I doubt it is going to change.

If your computer is capable of running Windows Vista or Windows 7, then you should be able to find the $40 needed to get a video card that is Vista/Win7 compatible as well.

#5.2 GP007 on 23 Jan 2009 - 23:31
Geforce 4? That's kinda wishful thinking don't you think? Do they even support those anymore?
(2 replies) #6 frission on 23 Jan 2009 - 21:53
the new driver doesn't seem to support as high of resolutions as the older ones (the 178 series vs the 181 series)
#6.1 GP007 on 23 Jan 2009 - 23:32
This one sounds more like a PhysX related update than anything else.

it probably is, because the last 181 didn't work for me either, but the last 178 does.

Does this fix that issue with 181.20 and 7600GT cards?
#8 c e 3 2 0 on 24 Jan 2009 - 11:41
GeForce 7 Series Users (GF 7600 and 7800 inc) Please (yet agian) note that:

This release Does Not work on Vista 32-bit.

At last, SLi and dual monitors at the same time!

2 x 8600 GT on Vista x64.
#10 Circaflex on 25 Jan 2009 - 03:06
these new releases are making me excited, the fact i only have like 3 or 4 drivers to chose from right now (gtx 295) these work best for me!
#11 ]SK[ on 25 Jan 2009 - 15:28
System wouldn't boot after installing these. Had to Safe Mode, Uninstall and reinstall older drivers.
