Release Notes link brings me to a "Unauthorized Download" page, anti-leeching I presume. Thanks for the heads up though. Think I might stick with 9.3 until 9.5 hits, this monthly crap is just way too frequent for me, especially with Catalyst drivers, 4870X2 and Vista - It's hell to upgrade.

Why? no reboot is even needed anymore, takes 5minutes tops.

Anyway for windows 7 I just installed but it is still on 9.3 drivers for me.

update: need to install win7 driver manually after ATI installer is done...

Windows 7 users should pick the first driver out of the 2 presented first one is WDDM 1.1 (ATi dont bother to mention it in the driver name) and it is authenticode signed while WDDM 1.0 is just digitally signed.

Let me say it like this, have you had the problems with Vista, 4870X2 and Catalyst drivers that I've had and many other users had, you would be reluctant to upgrade as well.

Nope did not need to do anything else after the installer. Everything was installed and works correctly with just the full installer ran.

Better avoid it!
It refused to install my 16xx card and on manual install there are only new HD cards supported...
Seems AMD dropped support... well done AMD, sink your ship even faster...

X1K series were dropped with this release (the Windows 7 drivers have never supported the X1K series); only HD2xxx and up are supported.

That is no real issue, even if you have AGP; simply upgrade to HD2400 or HD2600 (AGP) or HD3450/HD3650 or up (PCIe).

The reason the X1K series were dropped: they don't support DX 10 (at all). AMD is (understandably) concentrating on improving DX 10.x feature support in Catalyst. (R6xx and above all support DX 10 or above.)

I thought they were going to introduce support for older cards for Windows 7 later?

Older cards will get "new" drivers quarterly instead of monthly.

There was news about this not too long ago, though the headlines suggested they dropped it completely for older cards.

what about my x1250 series integrated chip in my toshiba laptop? will there be any issues with Windows 7?

Perfect!

I was hoping these would fix some issues I had with 9.3, and now I see ATI has dropped support for most of their cards!

Maybe we can modify the INF or something and add them back...?

Or maybe it's actually time to upgrade from DX9-only hardware?

I'm not being sarcastic; my mom has my old X1650 PRO (in AGP) because I left AGP altogether earlier this year. There *are* DX 10 cards that support AGP (there are even AGP cards that support DX 10.1 and HDMI); sometimes you have to bite the bullet and move on (and up).

Why replace hardware that already works? My daughter's system has a 9800 Pro. It's pretty darn fast for what she does.

Also, I can NOT replace the video card in my laptop. I'm quite stuck with it.

I'm also stuff with buggy 9.3 drivers. I guess I could try reloading 9.2 again. :/

*squeezes X1600* NEVER!!!

It wouldnt let me install my ATI Radeon 9600Pro this time around.. Maybe its time to realise how old my PC really is

Is this a temporary measure or will they actually stop supporting the old version cards from now on in the future builds? Im quite suprised they didnt wait for this until a new Release number (10) to represent a new era, new cards only versions
#5.1 Recon415 on 10 Apr 2009 - 08:04
Old DX 9 cards are moving on to legacy support. This includes 1X and below.

I believe it is time to finally put that 9600 to rest.

Whoa, I updated to 9.3 a couple of weeks ago. It's probably just me but it seems like they're on a roll with these driver updates.

Hehehe, they come out every month...

9.1 = 2009.01
9.2 = 2009.02
9.3 = 2009.03
9.4 = 2009.04

There were some problems with the 9.3 drivers, that is why we got the 9.4 so early in the month; which is unusal.
