WindowSpace provides more freedom and comfort in manipulating windows and organizing the desktop for convenient work. The new major version of WindowSpace introduces more than 25 new features and core improvements. As the previous versions (v1.x), WindowSpace v2.0 Beta works under Windows 2000/XP/Vista, 32-bit and 64-bit.

Here is the list of the most noticeable improvements:

Snap-To-Side (similar to the new Aero Snap feature in Windows 7)

Resizing to the edge:

Unsnapping window from the edge, restores its original size. As in the previous version of WindowSpace, you can also right-click the Maximize button to do this.

Roll Up / Unroll windows

20+ hotkeys to manage windows

Snap windows to grid lines

New in WindowSpace v2.0 Beta 2

Aero Snap in Windows 7 is very convenient for the owners of widescreen monitors. I'm trying to improve the original idea and make it more usable for the owners of really big monitors.

Snap-To-Corners (currently it is called "Move window to one fourth of the screen when touching the edge corners", Settings -> Moving & Resizing page)

As for "Snap-To-Side" and "Maximize Vertically", unsnapping window from the edge restores its original size.

WindowSpace is a shareware project (lifetime license costs $24.90). However, I'm currently giving a free evaluation version without any functional limitations. I invite everyone to test WindowSpace v2.0 Beta on as wide variety of system configurations as possible.

WindowSpace v2.0 Beta has a tested compatibility with the following OS:
  • Windows 2000 SP4 Professional
  • Windows XP (32-bit and 64-bit)
  • Windows Vista (32-bit and 64-bit)

Where's the free licence? I must have installed an earlier version to try it, as when I install this version is says the trial is over.

Well, I'd love to test it on my XP machine....

WindowSpace v2.0 Beta 3 has been released yesterday. This beta is the first WindowSpace 2.x release that runs with "UI Access" integrity level on Windows Vista. Now the most popular WindowSpace features (snapping, snap-to-side, menu extensions, etc) must work for elevated applications as well as for non-elevated. It is fully UAC compatible!

Download WindowSpace v2.0.3:

Meh $25 for a license. AreoSnap is free and does pretty much the same thing.

My algorithms are better... better Snap-To-Side, faster UI and animation, better support of different OS (+UAC compatible), restore window size works correctly, etc. I believe it's something that makes sense to the users.

+ more than 20 other useful features to manage windows and desktop workspace

So is this a replacement for Acer GridVista? Will it lock an app in place? Meaning when I play a video file will the play resize to the videos res?
#5.1 Alexander Avdonin on 30 Apr 2009 - 01:11
It doesn't lock apps in place, but it can snap them to the screen edges and other windows.
See: http://www.ntwind.com/software/windowspace/snapping.html

Aren't these features included for free in Linux's Com-Piz already?
#6.1 Alexander Avdonin on 30 Apr 2009 - 01:15
some of them are "built-in" in KDE 4 and Gnome (snap windows to the screen edges, maximize vertically/horizontally, roll up, etc)

Nice, but for $25 you might as well save a little more for an upgrade to 7.

+1 If this addon was at a reasonable price it would be worth it but $25 is about $20 to much for what it does.
#7.2 Alexander Avdonin on 30 Apr 2009 - 12:21
$24.90 is for a lifetime license (free upgrades to all future versions) + it allows you to install WindowSpace on more than one computer (f.e. PC + laptop)

Far too much... $5 - $10 max
#8 +Vykranth on 30 Apr 2009 - 16:20
It's a good program: it works as advertised: I like the blue shadow preview before snapping/maximizing the applications. I'll keep on using it till the evaluation period ends. After that, I'll see with the hedgehogs in my wallet.

Another 20+ hot keys to remember, well that's a really good selling point, not! $25, no thanks, worth about $5 at most as it's not something I feel I'm missing when using Windows. Heck $25 goes a fair way to a Windows 7 upgrade.
#10 kli6891 on 02 May 2009 - 02:17
Well worth the $25 imo, if you're NOT using windows 7 or plan to upgrade.

Excellent software, I like the abreviations with the right and middle click button. Finally i can put always on top, resize with snapping, easily, faster and with a almost transparent interface. Various of other software put awful buttons in the title bar....but WindowSpace with all the hotkeys, gesture and extensions don't need any of them.
GoodWork Alexander.

Easy Way: Right click taskbar 'Title Window Horizontally/Vertically' does the job for me.
