Thankfully a company that follows where Spybot and Adaware once ruled. Its a shame they became so bloated (adaware) and slow (spybot).

Spybot seems to find cookies. This is supposed to find trojans and bad spyware.

Spybot took upwards of 20 minutes to scan a machine which found next to nothing, and the malware came back on the next reboot. Ran Malwarebytes, and it completed the scan in 5 minutes - no malware.

Anyone know how good this is? My uncle was suggested to use it by someone at Rogers, I was wondering if it's worth having.

This is a must-have application for malware removal. I can't stress it enough.

I sent my niece a link to Spybot to help her clean her virus-infested machine. The virus redirected the link to another site, and she installed more malware. Some fun.

I can vouch for this program as I have used it on a number of different computers. It seems to be the best tool out there for finding and removing the WinAntivirus scamware.

In fact, I have been a NOD32 fan for years, but this program has made me question NOD32's effectiveness and response time.

I have used it for a while and it works well.

I've never moved on from SpyBot as I've had good experiences with it, but I'm going to give this a try as everybody seems to be saying it is better than SpyBot now-a-days

I use this in conjunction with SuperAntiSpyware. Both seem to do the job well. It does take longer than 5 minutes to scan my machine though, but I do a full scan every time.

I had a system that I was working on for someone that was litterally littered with Viruses, Trojans, Spyware, etc. This cleaned most of the Trojans and Spyware but I was sadened a little that it didn't get it all as I touted it so much. I used Spyware Terminator and a-Squared to get the rest. So now I use:

Avira (Default Detection) - Viruses\Spyware... Avast is decent too but AVG has recently missed a few updates
Spyware Blaster - Blocked site rules added to IE / Firefox. 0 additional resources to run this
Windows Defender - It's not perfect but the extensions built into the OS make it a little lighter than most, Avira seems to catch the rest
Windows Firewall - I know it's not the best but I feel I travel safely on the net and have the sense to check on the safety of programs through sites (like Neowin amongst a few others) and scan files I'm not totally positive with.
Malwarebytes - Periodical Spyware Scanning
a-Squared - Periodical Spyware\Trojan Scanning

For my friends who aren't so keen I use the above plus Spyware Terminator with Realtime Spyware Scanning

I've been in IT for about 13 years now and this is the latest that I think are the best. Please correct me on anything. I like to stay as light as possible and free is good. SAS is great too but doesn't seem to catch everything and my combo seems to be more then enough. The only other thing I use is Microsoft's Family Safety Filter. Sure it's a pain and I know those who scream freedom on the Net for kids will moan but I have 3 kids and I don't want them mistyping and watching 2 Girls 1 Cup just yet, k?

Let me know if you have any other suggestions as I'm getting old and don't always keep up with the best.
