What's new:

- 7-Zip now can unpack GZip, BZip2, LZMA, XZ and TAR archives from stdin.
- 7-Zip now can open/copy/compress disk images (like \\.\c:) from \\.\ folder.
- 7-Zip File Manager now doesn't use temp files to open nested archives stored without compression.
- New -scrc switch to calculate total CRC-32 during extracting / testing.
- New -scc{WIN|DOS|UTF-8} switch to specify charset for input/output (default = DOS).
- Some bugs were fixed.

Crazy version jumping or even skipping whole major numbers.

But to comment on the new 7-Zip version:
LZMA2 is able to scale with multicores and to save uncompressible files in uncompressed form instead of making them bigger.
Also the solid archive updating and the unpacking of subarchives without unpacking the main archive is a big thing...
Im running the new version on Windows 7 64Bit on a dualcore CPU and that thing is ultrafast!
The only bad thing is the 7-Zip installer...
If you don't delete all files in the folder manually, it doesn't update the files.
Seen this while i upgraded from Vista 32bit to Win7 64bit and the installer has not replaced the executables and dlls...
I have not checked it with the 32bit exe installer, but the 64bit MSI installer is really bad.
Now he's starting to use that versioning scheme again, after diverting from it.
That is - 7-zip 9.x for 2009.
Indeed, or at least make it skinnable.
I will stick with WinZip. I did buy it because it is worth it.
