Love Hulu, but don't want to be confined to its website when watching your favorite TV shows or movies? Well Hulu just recently released Hulu Desktop, an application for both Windows and OS X that lets you watch Hulu content right from your desktop. Both the Windows Media Center remote and the Apple Remote work with the software as well, so you can use them to navigate through the content. In addition, Hulu has also launched Hulu Labs, a place that lets you try out experimental projects and give feedback on them while they're still in development.
With Hulu now having a desktop application, it's possible that Hulu content could also come to other devices like Apple TV, etc. Rumors have been floating around that Hulu may come to Xbox 360. With Microoft's E3 conference on Monday, it's possible they could announce something.
Streaming video provider Boxee said in a blog post that it hopes the desktop app means the two sites can work together again. Back in Feburay, Hulu pulled its content from Boxee at the request of its content providers.

+1 This, then an iPhone app.
Ok, what about BBC? When are they gonna allow people in other countries to use iPlayer? People who bitch about this really don't understand the fact that it is not Hulu's (or Netflix, etc.) fault that the media companies do not allow international distribution of their content.
Dude... relax.
but still is unfair.
QFT.
He's got a point. Why is this on NeoWin?
Only the US can access this site because of antiquaited laws regarding distribution rights.
As long as these RIAA/MPAA companies continue to treat the world as if digital solutions and instantaneous distribution doesn't exist, they will continue to force overseas viewers to resort to less savory methods of viewing the shows they want to see.
Nature abhors a vacuum...and so does the Internet Age.
Because we people in the UK have to pay £130+ a year for a TV Licence just to watch TV which covers services like iPlayer, international people do not contribute so why should they open their content to you for free?
Hehe, iPhone app would be over kill!
just use a proxy...
It is moronic of the BBC to charge you for a license for TV, when you STILL have to sit through commercials (just as we do in the US). What is even more moronic is that the British people still put up with that nonsense.
You know it wasn't that long ago where content providers were staunchly against providing any other their stuff online in any form. It's shifting in the right direction although with a lot of kicking and screaming.
And buffer a small clip for how long? 5 hours?
They dont have adverts? just trailers about upcoming programs between the end/start of programs but the actual program is uninterupted.
Ummm there are no commercials on the BBC on TV, radio or iplayer.
Just kidding
It's a nice app, but being an international user its useless. Still, a nice app for all you Americans
The ability to watch Hulu from a desktop client.
Works for me.
Now PlayOn+PopCorn Hour to play Hulu on your TV... that's cool !
Oh look! It's the Fail Whale!
Irrelevant. Hulu cannot control where they are allowed to broadcast. They have said they are working on it. (snipped)

The final issue I see is with the system requirements. Dual core system with 2gigs of memory to play 720p video. Come on. I've seen it done... even streaming on a lowend Pentium 4 with less than a gig.
Hulu started as a web app, but now has made a Desktop app? That's cool. I like stand-alone apps.
Oh yeah, US-only? That's just another one of our many benefits for living in the best country in the world.
