Apple's love-it-or-hate-it iTunes media player has today been updated to version 8.2, preceding the release of the iPhone OS 3.0. The software, available on both Mac OS X and Windows, has not has an extensive upgrade, but as mentioned, it brings the all-important compatibility with the upcoming iPhone and iPod touch operating system, most likely due out later this month.Developers have so far received two pre-release versions of iTunes 8.2 from Apple, in order for them to test the OS 3.0, and, like we said, there aren't many noticeable changes. You can find the support article for iTunes 8.2 here, as well as finding the support article for QuickTime 7.6.2 here. The QuickTime update brings with it only improved support for iTunes 8.2 and it improves compatibility with Apple ProRes media.
If you want to update your install of iTunes, please use the software itself to check for updates, or you can head to the download page to get your hands on it before the WWDC next week. Also, if you want to update QuickTime you can use the built-in updater, or find it right here. If you haven't already, download it now and try it out, though don't be let down if you don't see fantastic new improvements.

Yesterday, Apple started pushing out their official iTunes 8.2, which supports mobile devices at firmware 3.0. Here's why you jailbreakers and yellowsn0w-users shouldn't really accept that "Update now?" question:
Most people aren't at 3.0. In fact 3.0 is still in beta and has lots of bugs (especially related to push updates).
It breaks your ability to use QuickPwn, PwnageTool, and iPhone Tunneling Suite (ssh over usb). We don't think this is a deliberate breakage of these tools. It's just that Apple has updated a low-level USB protocol that normally only Apple cares about (but jailbreakers care about).
So far, the only appreciable change to iTunes 8.2 is the Genius function working on videos.
It may actually break Palm Pre's connection to the device (please give us feedback on this).
This update is one of those that incidentally breaks QuickPwn and PwnageTool. It doesn't seem like an anti-jailbreak. But nonetheless, it will break your ability to re-run QuickPwn or PwnageTool's dfu-entry.
Because this update isn't a deliberate anti-jailbreak measure, it's easily fixed in our tools. But we really don't want to update our tools until 3.0 is out, so please don't update to 8.2 if you think you'll need to rejailbreak your device.
YellowSn0w on 2.2.1 and beyond
We see many questions about whether yellowsn0w can ever be made to work on firmware versions past 2.2 (or equivalently, basebands past 02.2
If there is a yellowsn0w update for firmware after 2.2 (or basebands after 02.2
You can get iTunes 64-bit over there : http://support.apple.com/downloads/iTunes_...indows__64_bit_

...which is not a native 64-bit application. Just the installer and the driver. Before you go correcting someone, check your facts. He was obviously well-aware of the 64-bit compatible version of the program.
Frankly,
I hate it and who uses Quicktime anymore?
Im also assuming alot of Mac owners use Quicktime?

QT is needed for iTunes to work. The Store is also driven by QT.

99% of Mac users = Millions of people.

Millions what ?what percent of market share ?
I have a mac too, and hate it. Anyhow for the playing movies and .... I Use VLC. way better. only for movie trailers from apple.com

He meant, all those Win 7 RC1 users need not install QT as all the Apple Trailers play in WMP by default.

Not me. I have a Mac and hardly ever use Quicktime. I've hated it since I got my first Windows machine back in '98. VLC is the only movie player I use on the Mac, and WMP on Windows.
But that being said, I'm pretty sure I will use QuickTime X, from what I've read about it...

This update didn't fix that problem for me. The only reason why I bothered to download this was my hope that they've fixed this.
Sigh. I guess this just isnt going to be fixed.
How about giving an incremental update a try.
How about running Software update and let it download in the background?

Way to miss the point, champ. Good thing Apple is a "hardware company" (or so they say), because their software is a mess.

Actually yes it is, but hey, thanks for the "hot tip".
PS Windows 7 RC media player can play .mov without quicktime right out of the box!

Right right, because the millions of other applications that use MSI are using some magic in order to work flawlessly, and Apple is one of the few that manages to screw it up. iTunes alone has me seriously considering dumping my iPod for other brands of media players, simply from not wanting to deal with this clunky sludge any longer.

use 'QT Lite for VCP' instead for in browser stuff on Vista
i haven't checked but can WMP12 playback apple trailers in browser on W7? i kind of doubt it but if it can somebody let me know, don't' think that port25 wmp plugin for firefox works in 3.5+ or with wmp12
It says something that would be something like "None of the selected updates could be stored, Software Update cannot find the update server. Make sure you are connected to the internet and try again." in english.
I'm connected, everythings fine, updates have worked before over this connection on this location with this networking hardware, is it me or is there a problem?
Don't know about windows but heard that it is little clumsy on windows platform. the irony!
