Outpost Firewall gives peace of mind from any virtually every Internet danger. Unlike other personal firewalls, Outpost starts protecting against all kinds of internal and external attacks as soon as it's installed.

This is the first firewall with an open architecture and support for plug-ins, so its capabilities can easily be extended by thousands of developers worldwide.

Key Benefits:

Basic Firewall Protection - Standard packet and application filtering safeguard your computer from unwanted communications.
Connections Monitoring - Lets you see network activity in real time, to help define inappropriate connections and close them right away.
Surfing Protection - Maintains your privacy on the Internet, keeps browser protected from Internet dangers.

Sure, it's a nice software and i bought it once. For me it suites good. Got more protection than the included ones (the pay version).

I use Zone Alaram Basic version and very happy with it. Any idea on how Outpost compares to Zone Alarm?

For paid-for versions, Outpost is the best firewall by far...

However, I haven't tried this free version yet, but given that I like it, I will give it a chance in a spare machine I use for tests.

I think the free version is also nice.

I hope you don't mean the firewall that comes with Vista, because that's a festering piece of donkey droppings - it's so crappy, pretty much *any* firewall is better!

You can see that Outpost (even the free version) is one of the best here:

You can also find the Vista/Win7 firewall in that test - look at the very bottom of the list where it says "Windows Live OneCare", that's the Vista/Win7 firewall wrapped up in a nice package so it can also be installed on XP. 5% (out of 100) is a really catastrophic result.

You need to know what the test is focusing on. This is a bogus test for Windows Firewall which does work just fine. Especially with security stuff you should be careful forming fixed opinions directly from reviews/"tests". Very muddy area.

How many processes does it have running?

If it's more than one, that's not good!!

I have used the free version of this before and found it to be a very effective firewall.

I'll stick with my old, single running process, Kerio, until further notice.
