CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware!

What's new:
  • Improved Opera 10 support for final release.
  • Fixed the "No Disk" exception error.
  • Fixed %ProgramFiles% bug in 64-bit Registry scanning.

Piriform need to come up with a better way of updating their software. Surely they must be able to come up with an "Antivirus"-esque update system for supporting more applications. Some sort of Firefox-style update system would be nice too.

+1
It gets old real quick having to uninstall and then reinstall so often.

You don't need to uninstall. Just install the new version and everything will be fine. And you don't need to upgrade every time there is a new update.

I'm aware of the huge popularity of this software, and the relative importance of the occasional file cleanup (i.e. not very important), what I don't understand is WHY.
Since day one there have been file cleaners, there are built in ones in windows which are for most purposes adequate and there is a slather of stand alone ones and file cleaners built in to programs like Tune-Up Utilities etc etc. They all do a pretty similar job, don't they?
I used to and still do my own sometimes - pretty effective really and with great search tools like Everything I can do a tidy up quicker than using CCleaner or any other program.

Because people are lazy. Not everyone, but most. Anything that can make ANY small task easier is a welcome addition to most people. And hey, who wants to manually search for and research which files are safe to delete? The program is small, quick, and does its job well. Of course there are "power users" and the paranoid, but I think that's the jist of it.
