Some Team Fortress 2 news, general information

Some new information regarding Team Fortress 2 has spilled out, thanks to an article in the German gaming magazine PC Action for this month. Thanks to some users over at Halflife2.net a general summary in English is available, detailing general gameplay changes along with class specifics and other such information.

Here is a small snippet:

  • There won't be "normal" grenades anymore. Valve thinks that they unify the different classes too much.
  • Unlike in Fortress Forever, teleporters are kept in Team Fortress 2. The ammo dispenser will make a comeback as well.
  • There will be a personalized statistics system. For example, you could see an in-game message like "Hey, you've never played your class as well as today - keep it up!"
  • Valve thinks that classes in other games are a joke. "Where's the difference between me choosing a M16 or an AK-47 rifle?", asks Robin Walker.
  • It would be technically feasible to let owners of a PC, XBOX 360 and PS3 play against each other. Whether this feature makes it into the final game is still uncertain and depends on Sony and Microsoft.
  • Owners of multicore processors will get additional, undisclosed, graphics details.
  • The Medic can heal team members from long distances, as long as they are in sight. Furthermore, he can make himself and his patients invulnerable for 10 seconds.

If Valve DID actually say this.. Which I highly doubt, then they are idiots because they MADE CounterStrike. They should have fixed it, and if classes are a joke in other games, then its funny considering CS was the biggest online FPS game out for YEARS.

hmm.. A little overpowered it sounds like, also WTF is this Valve trying to make a MMORPG? lmao

No but seriously I can't wait for TF2 and Portal both look amazing and look like so much fun, Valve has always released some pretty great products in the past so I have no doubt, and considering most of the DoD:S team went to help make TF2 I know its going to be kick a$$.

But yeah, where is our pretty coverart ?

Umm, I hate to burst your bubble, but "Valve" did NOT make Counter Strike. Counter Strike has been around since, what? Like 1998 or 1999 or so. Counter Strike was a Half Life "modification" that was done by some people in the mod community. Because Counter Strike was so popular (probaby one of the most popular multiplayer FPS games of all time), Valve bought the rights to Counter Strike from the developers. Since buying the rights to the modification, Valve also made a couple of changes including making it a full stand-alone game, and even bringing it to the retail space. So, "if" they did say that, that would NOT make them idiots, because making a dramatic change to the game like that would probably **** off their entire user base.

To add to your point, whether Valve made CS or not, how in the world does it have anything to do with that statement? There are no different classes in CS. There are two teams. When you select them, you then choose different skins. They're not supposed to be different classes, and they don't behave differently either. I wonder if you ever played Counter-Strike before, Smeltn.

As above, Valve did not make CS, and mearly jumped on the bandwaggon and bought it out when they realised there was money to be made from a free mod.

Is this the sequel to the Team Fortress addon for Quake 1 or is it a sequel to another game?

Full standalone sequel to team fortress addon.

This was supposed to come out a little after half life 1. But was postponed and remade.

All this info is well and good, but it means absolutely nothing if we can't play the damn game. Hey Valve, here's a thought: stop releasing info on TF2 (and Portal and HL2:E2) and release the "boxes" already.
