Sony cuts PlayStation 4 prices around the world

Last month, Sony announced a permanent price cut to its PlayStation 4 in Japan, and a few weeks later, it followed up with similar reductions in the US and Canada. Now, it's extended the price drop to a ton of additional markets around the world.

The price cuts come into effect today across what the company refers to as the 'SCEE (Sony Computer Entertainment Europe) region', although this region also includes the Middle East, Africa and Oceania.

The most affordable 500GB PlayStation 4 now starts at the following prices in these markets:

  • United Kingdom: £299.99 GBP

  • Eurozone (except Austria and Germany): €349.99 EUR
  • Austria and Germany: €349.95 EUR
  • Australia: $479.95 AUD
  • New Zealand: $569.95 NZD
  • United Arab Emirates: 1399 AED

Sony's decision to reduce the cost of its console comes ahead of the all-important holiday shopping season, and the company will no doubt be hoping that the new entry-level price point proves enticing enough to consumers to give it a commanding sales lead over Microsoft's Xbox One.
