Sprint waives calling and text messaging fees to the Philippines

Sprint is stepping up to help out those impacted by the disastrous Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. The wireless carrier announced today that it's waiving all calling and text messaging fees made by its U.S. customers to the Philippines.

This ought to help people in the U.S. greatly who have friends and family in the Philippines that they are desperately trying to stay in contact with. The calls and texts are waived as of Nov. 8 and will continue to be until Dec. 7. Additionally, customers who were already charged during this time period will receive a credit on their accounts with the appropriate amount owed.

Sprint isn't stopping there though. Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile USA are joining in to waive standard text messaging fees for any of its customers who send a message to an organization to donate money toward disaster relief in the Philippines. See below for the full list of qualifying campaigns.

Lastly, the Sprint Foundation is donating $25,000 to the American Red Cross Philippines Typhoon Appeal Fund and on top of that will match donations made by individual Sprint employees, up to an additional $25,000.
