Spybot-S&D Final

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behavior to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer. SpyBot-S&D allows you to exclude selected cookies, programs or extensions from being reported, allowing you to prevent false positive messages for items that you dont want to be alerted of every time. It can even scan your download directory for files that have been downloaded, but not yet installed, allowing you to detect unwanted programs before you even install them. SpyBot produces a detailed and easy to understand report before it deletes any files and allows you to deselect any item that you do not want to be processed. In addition, a recovery feature allows you to restore your settings if needed.

I don't bother with anti-spyware programs because my balls are more humongous and i don't visit pron sites and clik all kinds of crappy links. I also use firefox which blocks activeX content (IE doesn't) which is the reason why most people get infested.

I don't even bother with anti-spyware programs because I don't get infected in the first place.

I would certainly agree that a program with great functionality and just good enough GUI is better than a program with great GUI but good enough functionality. However, I think people are forgetting something here. Wouldn't it be better if a program has both great GUI and functionality?

I can certainly understand why some people are complaining about the GUI. I've been using this program for a while, and still am, but the GUI barely changed ever since I started using it. It had a disappointing GUI, for a program so commonly used, and the situation should have long improved.

But well... It's not a program I use as often as uTorrent... So ya, I don't really care. :suspicious:

The GUI for me could be updated, but i dont care so much about the GUI as the fact that the program has to be able to do what its suppose to.

Well, its always worked well for me, however, with this new release it seems to be a little slower getting updates and applying them to the software.

Also, the changes i would have liked to see in the new version, which im upset wher not applied, but ther may be some explination for, is this:

Why does the program not have an Automatic update feature like Antivirus programs tend to?

Why does it not automatically immunize itself? Everything has to be done manually, which may mean we have more control over what we do with the program, but is annoying if you forget to update etc...

Any ideas why these have not or even SHOULD not be implimented to the program?

I know EXACTLY where you're coming from here. What's with the childish cries of an ugly gui. Cripe people!! Get off the eye candy crap!!

May give this program another shot. Quit using it because it's so dang slow anymore. Not that Superantispyware is much faster, but it was differnet, for a while.

personally i love spybot.... would never not use it... i think this and windows defender make it a good group.. have never had any problems when i have them both side by side...

GUI? Who gives a crap about GUI? You people sound like kids. The first thing you look for is does it do what it says.

Yes it does!

The GUI is fine, all these people are constantly complaining when something isn't updated. Although the GUI is a way for us to use a piece of software, the layout is fine the way it is.

Does anyone know what the Security Centre integration does?

For everyone crying about the GUI (from the Q&A section):

Why is the interface still that ugly and looks a dozen years old?
Some people hate it, some people love it. A lot of commercial software changes the user interface every year, and we have to admit that's a good way to make users believe a lot has changed and might improve sales. For 1.5, we mostly ignored the user interface though, and spend more time improving functionality and quality assurance. We even had some skinning mechanism integrated in an early beta, but didn't feel that new look was worth the performance loss through non-standard visual elements. Version 2.0s UI will be designed with the help of pros, but will still keep the standards.

what is so terrible about the gui... it is perfect the way it is.. easy to use and everything is written in plain english easy to understand.? this is an excellent software and the gui is normal the way it is.

Coherent statement learn to make you must. Said what you did make not sense.

LOL! I'm going to have to use that one. Funnier than dog snot.

gui's dont tell you everything,a nice gui is good but the protection is what matters,i'm with u radish & AthleticTrainer1981 on this.if the interface is at least good thats good, ppl it aint about pretty gui's,it's about what it offers most.in the old days you never had pretty gui's like now.

lol, "bad GUI = bad program"... I guess that's the reason why 7-zip doesn't beat WinRAR on computer newbies' systems. ^^

me personally i like 7-zip overall more than winrar... although i still think speed wise winrar is better than 7-zip in general with close to 7-zip's compression even though in terms of pure compression in most cases 7-zip works better.

all-in-all, the main reason i want the .7z format to become the new standard over the current .rar is cause it's FREE ;)

but i think it's sorta like the ogg vs mp3 stuff... even though ogg is superior ... mp3 is already "the standard" and once standards are formed it takes many many years to change if ever.

i pretty much agree here... i think there interface is "good enough" , and it's good that they spend more time on the functionality of the product over the damn interface ;)

bottom line = i use spybot S&D/Ad-Aware/Spywareblaster and thats pretty much got me covered and there all FREE... but then again i rarely get infected anyways.

Ok just tried this and you think after all these years they would have improved the GUI. NOT. Spybot is far behind when compared to the new guys on the block. I will stick with Superantipsyware and Spyware Terminator.

Wow, how shallow are you?

If you haven't noticed, most Windows users think "PRETTY GUI MEANS THE PROGRAM IS GOOD" - they don't really care how good the detection or the speed is or how few false positives it gives.

The only thing that matters is the pretty shell around the program - speaks books of the current society too.

How is their GUI any better?
