Square Enix Confirms FFXIII Is Not Exclusive To PS3

In a huge blow to Sony, Motomu Toriyama of Square Enix confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII, the blockbuster RPG highly anticipated by millions of fans of the series, will not be an exclusive game for the PlayStation 3 console. The Final Fantasy XIII project currently consists of two games for the PS3 as well as a mobile game but now it appears that other consoles will be receiving Final Fantasy XIII as well. The big question is which console Square Enix plans to support. The Xbox 360 is easily a very popular speculation choice but one must not rule out the Nintendo DS handheld and or the Nintendo Wii since Square Enix has been very impressed and pleased with the Wii's user base and the DS has already received the Final Fantasy treatment a few times.

Honestly, Neowin, you are horrible horrible journalists. The big game, Final Fantasy XIII is exclusive to the PS3.

"In fact, the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII project isn't just limited to three titles - there are many different aspects. In terms of the formats we're reaching, as well, it's not simply exclusive to the PS3 and mobile phones."

However the spin offs that will come off of the XIII project (remember final fantasy x-2?) will not be exclusive.

theres no oficial news and i dont think its a good source.

if square enix its inteligent they should make FF XIII for a wii and a spinoff for a DS

To be perfectly honest, if Square Enix is intelligent they'll make FF XIII for anything that's not just the PS3, be it 360, Wii or PC. The PS3 on its own will not provide enough of a userbase for what they're looking for, the way it's going...

Square Enix isn't itnerested in selling PS3 unit, they're interested in selling their games, and the PS3 has the absolute smallest userbase out there right now.

and since the game s built on a multiplatform engine it doesn't make sense for them to release it only on Ps3, and the Wii isn't powerfull enough to run the game without redoing all the graphics. economically, since Sony doesn't have enough money left to pay for exclusives, sticking to the PS3 doesn't pay off, at all. and sure some peopel will buy the PS3 when FFXII is released for it, but most peopel who would pay for the PS3 for the FF and MGS exclusives allready have, I wouldn't expect any huge rush of sales because of either of these games.

Well, after some digging, it looks like PS3 Center quoted the original source and made it more ambiguous.

The original quote from the Australian PlayStation Magazine article:

"In fact, the Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII project isn't just limited to three titles - there are many different aspects. In terms of the formats we're reaching, as well, it's not simply exclusive to the PS3 and mobile phones."

From this quote, the main game and Versus will most likely remain on the PS3, while other extensions to the Fabula Nova Crystallis project will branch out to other consoles and handhelds.

wow great reading things that arn't there.

I agree brent read a little too much into this announcement, but I personally think it's a fairly safe bet that it will be released on the 360.

This is probably just a play on words... remember that Square regards FFXIII as a sort of mini-franchise within the FF franchise. So, a spin off kind of like FFXII: Revenant Wings on the DS.

Also, the news posts uses the FFXII logo?
