Star Wars releasing on Blu-Ray in September

Since HD DVD and Blu-ray first came on the scene, everyone has been wondering when Star Wars would be available to purchase. According to Amazon.com, we now have our answer: September 27, 2011.

There appears to be three different SKUs available for preorder. One will contain the original trilogy on three discs and includes "Never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes, an exploration of the exclusive Star Wars archives, and more." The second product also contains three discs for the new trilogy and lists the same special features as the original trilogy. The third product is the "Complete Saga" and contains all six movies spanning nine discs, including "three additional discs and more than 30 hours of extensive special features."

Neither Lucas Arts nor Twentieth Century Fox has confirmed the street date, but it would be unusual for the online superstore to pick a random date and put it up on the site.

The movies that defined childhood for many people has been released on so many different formats with so many different versions throughout the years, but everyone still cries for the best picture and sound quality they can and this release will hopefully deliver.

Only one question remains: Who shot first?

..."souvenirs" like facsimile laser swords, and so...

Someone escort this guy off the page. Laser sword... <shrug>

How long will Lucas be able to milk this dead cow... Not saying that the movies are bad, but come on now. How many re-releases can they do? Does South Park need to make another episode about George Lucas and re-re-re-releases before they stop this madness?

Well, consider this: I'm a moderate Star Wars fan, however I don't own the movies on neither VHS nor DVD. I'd like to have them home so seeing that there is a Blu-Ray edition coming out at a reasonable price I'm getting it.

I will have to pass on this set. I am in the crowd that wants the original theatrical versions released. I do not want a version where Hayden Christiansen is editted in at the end of Return of the Jedi. I guess I will stick to my VHS box sets lol

This is a great notice, but I've been checking what's in the disc, and I believe that this isn't the great launch... Poor extras contents. Lucas always say that the extra material for the HD launch of StarWars saga is gorgeus, so no all of this is on the disc... maybe the keep it for a future extra launch with some pieces of "souvenirs" like facsimile laser swords, and so...

Would be great if no one bought these retarded hack jobs of ep 4-6, so he would be forced to put out the originals.
I know that won't happen though.

He claims the original film prints were destroyed when they made the special editions. It seems hard to believe anyone would do something that stupid but then again it's Hollywood, so it's probably true.

Yeah, this has been available for preorder on amazon for months. Wake me when and if the theatrical versions are available on blu ray. I'm not holding my breath, Lucas is a douche.

why would it be region free. Blu-ray has its own region set-up (ABC) and nearly all blu-rays follow this.

WIll it be Region Free is the question...

Most likely not as 20th Century is the studio for Star Wars and most of their BluRay titles are region coded.

Yay finally! I have the original VHS and the DVD's ... time to get with the times and get the Bluray copy!

Hopefully it comes with the THX theater setup thing ... that is neat to play around with.

I'll take Episode V, if it's sold separately. That's the only one that wasn't completely FUBAR by the Special Edition "enhancements".

Only sold as trilogies.

Ugh. I agree. V was indeed the 'best' of the remade ones. Glad that I still have IV, V, and VI on DVD - which contain the "2nd disc" - in original theatrical form. True, they are basically Laserdisc dubs, but at least they are the original theatrical versions on disc...

My biggest gripe is that Lucas bitched about it "costing too much" to restore the originals.. Um, excuse me, he ALREADY DID for the "remakes" - so there MUST be original footage in restored form already... Lamest excuse ever for not properly releasing the original versions in restored quality.

I might be somewhat interested in the original 3, IF there were restored versions of the original theatrical versions available. Sorry George.

The question as to who shot first does not "remain". Greedo shoots first, do a bit more research when reporting please. And as a result, I won't be purchasing these.

Yeah, from what I understand, this is the remastered crap that he is putting out. Its not the original theatrical release. Save your money people...

Would like the two separate packs, not sure why I would need the one containing the three extra disc. Will be nice to see what they have added.

As to childhood, forget that I was already in my thirties when the first one was released, damn how time flies.
