Starbreeze acquires Payday: The Heist maker Overkill

Payday: The Heist developer Overkill Software got a real pay day of its own earlier this week. The Sweden-based makers of the PC-PS3 downloadable game from 2011 were acquire by one of their fellow Swedish game developers; Starbreeze, which recently released the cyberpunk shooter Syndicate from EA.

Gamesindustry reports that Payday: The Heist has already sold 400,000 units since it was released in October 2011. Expansions for that game are in the works as well as a full sequel.

Joystiq reports that Starbreeze has three more games under development. One of them has the code name P13 and is being made with the help of Swedish movie director Josef Fares. According to Starbreeze's president and CEO Mikael Nermark, Fares is a major gamer and added, "To Swedes, this is like having a guy like Christopher Nolan working on the game on a daily basis." It will be released via download for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 but no release date was announced.

Another game in the works has the code name Cold Mercury but no details about that game have been revealed. Yet another game from Starbreeze is currently under development but the company isn't even offering a title yet.
