Steam UI update due April 26, OS X release expected soon

Valve has announced that the Steam client UI update will be released to all users next Monday, April 26th. The public beta has run for two months and has had over twenty updates.

As previously reported the Steam platform is expected to be released on Apple's OS X operating system by the end of the month. Valve's entire range of video games, including Half-Life, Left 4 Dead 2 and the yet to be released Portal 2 will be available. It is unknown whether Valve will release Steam for OS X the same day as a release date is yet to be announced.

Valve said the number of participants in the UI update beta exceeded their expectations and also said there were over 25 thousand posts created in the beta user forums.

The beta was dubbed "a huge success" in the announcement and for Steam users who wish to view the new UI they can find out about and download the beta here.

Call me crazy ... but my beta just seems to have updated to the final already today? All beta markings were removed and replaced with 'new' links.

i was going to say the same!

Hope they fix the bug of the steam platform updates reinstalling every few hours like the current beta does, I have told them this from the start and it has been ignored. Its a PitA to be told there is an update and its the same one over and over again.

aaaa.... its a beta isn't it? Beta is something that is not finished yet. Stop complaining or stop using the new BETA interface.

So soon I'll be able to pwn Mac noobs in TF2?

GOOD TIMES!

looking forward to this myself! will be definitely awesome

Valve should be working on Half Life Episode 3, not on some crappy OSX ports. Geeze Valve, when will you finish the products that you start. An upgrade to the Source engine would also be appreciated by PC users.

Dont you think they have several different teams working with different applications/games?

The OSX ports are hardly crappy from what i've heard and there's more than 1 team at valve. As for the source engine upgrades, Portal 2 has dynamic lighting, which is a welcome upgrade.

Looking forward to the windows update and the Mac os version. I hope we see the id software titles for Mac on steam soon too.

Any idea on what games will be available at osx launch?

Portal for one, and with their advertisement one could guess Half Life (2) and Team Fortress 2 but they could be coming later too, maybe they are just publishing the platform itself to OSX

If there are any games at lunch i doubt it will be anything but valve games though
