Surface RT shown off in episode of NCIS: Los Angeles

The Microsoft Surface tablet running Windows RT was released earlier this month and all pre-orders of the device have been shipped to consumers.

Whilst we know Microsoft is working hard at marketing the Surface tablet with excellently choreographed adverts, and by opening of temporary Microsoft holiday stores and allowing consumers to experience its tablet with Surface Experience Centres, very few people could have expected Surface being shown off in an NCIS: Los Angeles episode.

As you can see from the clip above, a quick demonstration is shown in the episode which shows off the lock screen, photo unlock functionality and the ‘click in’ touch cover and it makes Surface-less people like some of us here on Neowin want Microsoft’s new gadget even more.

Whether you feel the demonstration is scripted or not, no one can argue that seeing the tablet in the media isn't a very cool way of subliminal advertisement, because it quite clearly is.

How'd all those shots of Windows Phone 7 in Castle work out for them?

What's Castle? I think I heard someone talk about it long ago but no one actually watches it.

A show that in fact a lot of people watch.

I can't speak for everyone, but my parents have been wanting a Windows Phone since they saw one on there... I had them wait for 8 though...

ashton was using a surface in two and a half men last week as well.

Plus this is nothing new for this show. They all use windows phones and skydrive since season 1.

NCIS:LA uses "Cloud Drive" lol THey showed SkyDrive like once.

Come on, is this really news? You see product placement for tech everywhere. Apple logos and Windows logos are on everyone's laptops in shows these days.

To be fair, you didn't have to click into the article and comment; you could have merely browsed the news articles you were interested in, instead of the ones you weren't.

I am very interested in things like this, especially as many consumers don't know about Surface and it'll be interesting to me to see how much this ad works. This is the first time we've seen a product placement of Surface and not many people know about Surface; the situation is completely different to Apple showing off another Mac in yet another TV show.

Considering its NCIS where they are able to zoom into the licenseplates on a 0.5mp photo from 2 miles away. People are not going to believe that's an actual device if they've never heard of it.

Yes but when doing it with Apple iPads etc, there's not such a cheesy a** feel as though it's seriously an advert

Shows like this have had Microsoft product placement in them before... Hawaii Five-O for example frequently has Windows Phones on the show, and they use Bing, they've even got a big table computer that looks very much like the device formerly known as surface

Is that Windows 9? It has the Start Screen but the desktop looks super advanced.

lol it's a animation or special software made for this tv show ;P

Just got surface RT with touch cover today. Haven't done much other than setup but on build quality alone, with full Office 2013, this is the deal of the century. I have to say the lowish res screen looks awesome. Impressive, very impressive. Microsoft always has done right by their hardware.

Agreed. It's a very impressive device.

They haven't always done right by their hardware, but when they haven't they have made up for it with replacements or repair. RROD.
I love my Surface.

cheezy as ****

Yeah... showing off the tablet was one thing, but to then show off the kickstand and the cover was borderline cheesy.

It's some of the most obvious product advertising i've seen in any show. So cheesy. But on the other hand it's always nice to see the Surface's capabilities shown off.

But if Apple would have did it, you would have been blowing so much smoke up there arse...right?

if APple had originally did the kickstand/keyboard with the iPad, you all would have been falling on your faces with happiness. But because Microsoft did it, its cheesy? Amazing!!!!!
