Surprise! All GameStop general managers will get a free Xbox One as well

It's a good time to be a GameStop general manager! Looks like Microsoft will not allow Sony to steal their thunder in terms of giving these GMs some free hardware and software. Just a few hours after GameStop executives revealed at their expo in Las Vegas that all of its general managers will be getting a free PlayStation 4 and seven games, they have now said those same people will get a free Xbox One console from Microsoft as well.

As with the PS4 freebie reveal, the first word on the Xbox One offer came via social networks such as this Twitter account:

As we did before with the PS4 news, we contacted GameStop and their PR rep Jackie Smith confirmed the news to us via email. Again, the free Xbox One console will be given to all of the general managers of GameStop's over 6,500 retail stores, regardless if they are attending the GameStop Expo this week.

There's no word yet if the free Xbox One will also come with a selection of games, but if so we will update this post with the news and, hopefully, a full list of those titles.

"I guess Microsoft needs friends in places like Gamestop that support the antiquated physical media model."

"Is not this a bribe?"

"This is pretty goddamn unethical." "and desperate."

"Sony would have gotten in trouble if they had done this, they would have been accused of bribes."

Wtf. From the new consoles almost taking out their company (rumored before that the next gen consoles won't support 2nd hand games) and now they get free consoles. WTF!

Ok guys, be fair and take back what you said in the PS4 article.

no. microsoft has to do this to remove the element of bias. imagine if you will if microsoft didnt match it. the gamestop gms would probably have the employees push a certain product, because they bought him/her with a console.

Oh please. GameStop knows better than that. They can not survive on PS sales alone and GS makes a crap ton of money from XBOX sales. And to think that MS did not have some kind of promotional giveaway already planned is just silly. PS acted first and may have changed MS plans a little, but I am betting they had something planned as well. MS has done several promotional giveaways before and even a blind person could see they would of done something here as well.

In short, GS is not stupid and they cannot afford to alienate MS or Sony. They will promote both products and benefit from doing so. Like they always have done.

So when Sony does it, they're desperate http://www.neowin.net/news/gam...and-7-games#comment-2315015

but when Microsoft does it a few hours later, they're only doing so to remove bias and then you follow it up with speculation? Wow, if anyone had any doubt about you spending your time online coming up with excuses for Microsoft, this post should remove all of that.

What's so hard about accepting the fact that most companies give away free stuff and even wine and dine people who sell their wares?

Wow, talk about unethical and desperate....

Like I said in the other post, nothing new to what companies have been doing for years. Betting some kind of XBOX give away was already planned before Sony's announcement as well. If there was a choice between the 2 tho, Id take the XBOX

MS had to match this move. I've never worked at a Gamestop but when I was in college I worked in the video game dept. of Toys R Us (when they were still somewhat relevant). Maybe the people that walk in are less educated and more mainstream at TRU, but parents and general consumers are definitely swayed by the employee. I remember the Xbox rep always gave me better swag so I turned more people to Xbox than PS2.

It's Gamestop, so it should only take me about 3 days to climb the corporate ladder and become a general manager so I can collect my free Xbox and PS4.

Nah, not worth it.

Tis a good day to be a GameStop general manager, shame I am not one nor know someone who is one. Would definitely love either of these awesome consoles.

Makes me wonder if one, or both, have something planned for the normal workers to try and one up each other. This could get interesting.
