T-Mobile leaks Apple's iPhone 3GS hardware specs

A few days ago Apple announced the iPhone 3GS at the annual World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC). Apple was very short with the details on the new iPhone 3GS, however T-Mobile has spilt the beans and have posted a few hardware specs that the device will feature at launch in a few weeks:

According to the screen shot below, taken from the T-Mobile NL website, the iPhone 3GS will feature 256MB of RAM and a whooping 600 MHz processor. Previous versions of the iPhones that came to market included 128MB of RAM and a 412MHz processor. The added RAM alone will make a huge difference in speed and should allow larger applications run on the device.

Just in case you missed the original announcement, here's a short recap of what's to come with the iPhone 3GS (S=Speed):

  • 3 mega-pixel camera with auto focus, auto white balance, and auto exposure. Doubles as a VGA video recorder at 30fps w/ audio
  • Voice control, aka voice recognition
  • Built in compass
  • Improved battery life

The new iPhone 3GS will be available on June 19th in the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. Other countries will start receiving devices in July and August. And the price for the new device will be $199* for the 16GB model and $299* for the 32GB model, both available in black or white flavors.

*Prices listed above are with a two year contract with AT&T.

hardware wise, apple should have added a front-side video camera for skype video conferencing, as well as an OLED screen. They practically kept the hardware the same as the 3G model, other than the built-in compass & 3mpixel camera.

software wise, they should have definitely included multitasking support (the new cpu & ram would have supported such a feature), as well as adobe flash support. hopefully the'll add these features with the next revision of the iPhone OS.

this was a pretty lame upgrade, hopefully the iPhone 2010 will include these features.

So can I get a UK guy or girl to buy me couple Iphones over there and ship them to me to use on the US t-mobile network?

Nope, I don't think it will work!
Althou my iPhone 2G was an AT&T phone and I unlocked it to use it with Vodafone UK.

Supposedly the Palm Pre has the same hardware as the 3GS, and does multitasking.

The newer revision of the CPU used in the iPhone supports multi-core, so who wants to bet the 2010 iPhone will support multitasking? All the people that jumped on the 3GS will be whining then. All those who got the 3G last year (and are whining now), will be able to get the multitasking iPhone next year.

I think if these specs are true multitasking will be back ported to the 3gs but not the 3g. This seems like they threw in the upgraded specs at the last minute and didnt have the time for a design change. Thats why they arent mentioning the spec upgrade.

I'm pretty certain the next iPhone 2010/4th Gen will be the one to upgrade to. It will feature a design change I feel. As the last 3 model will be moreless the same. Apple don't like keeping the same design that often.

They removed the specs from that page... I don't believe it was true, if it was true Apple would have bragged about it at WWDC.

Apple never mentioned the specs of the previous models. It's irrelevant to the user experience. Only people like us care.

I did read on tweakers.net (Dutch) that the guy who released it said it was a joke... Dunno

I do not have an apple iphone; however, these new additions seem worthless for anybody to upgrade. Shouldn't they already have a camera/video recorder? Even voice control?

Voice control was done like 5-6 years ago, probably even further back.

Yea I was a little ****ed about the voice control. The camera function could require new hardware for it to be done smoothly, the old camera could do it, hint jailbreak. But it wasn't very good. I'm more interested in the speed boost/larger storage and unfortunately voice control. Had they given voice control to the older models I probably wouldn't be upgrading. Least its cheaper?

Its hilarious that people are gullible enough to buy a brand new PDA Phone after a year for an extended battery and a sightly less mediocre chipset .

hilarious ****ing hilarious haha

Yeah my crap old Moto phone had voice control... pretty useless though; never bothered using it.

The iPhone 3G can be used to record video using Cycorder (Must jailbreak though). Not very good, but it can be done.
