T-Mobile USA to start selling iPhone?

According to the Engadget, Financial Times is reporting an interesting statement from Deutsche Telekom's CEO. It seems that T-Mobile USA expects to carry the iPhone with the next two years. Here are the CEO's exact words with regards to the iPhone:

"T-Mobile USA is hoping to start selling the popular smartphone later this year or next year."

It doesn't get much clearer than that. He also goes on to say that, in the meantime, Android is the company's primary focus. Engadget's Chris Ziegler brings up a very good point. CEOs are always expressing their willingness to house Apple's gem on their network. This could just end up being a case of over-excited CEO syndrome.

The above statement isn't exactly concrete evidence of the iPhone's T-Mobile coming, but never-the-less, it's sure to get people's attention. We'll just have to wait and see what happens over the next year and a half.

If it'll be next year, hopefully it'll be a revised version that will better compete with the android and WM phones already available on the network.

Plus, my contract ends next year, so I'll just be an easy prey to keep using t-mobile for my 10th year of owning a cell phone.

I hope not. I hope if T-Mobile does get it, the company won't forget users of other smartphone platforms, unlike the way AT&T treated non-iPhone users.

what is the big deal, t-mobile over here has been selling i-phone since it was released. why t-mobile decides this is stranger.t-mobile usa & t-mobile are one company.this to me it nothing but bad tactical management.

T-mobile has great service in my area, been with them for several years now. But they're about to lose me to AT&T this spring/summer when the iPhone gets refreshed. To vague of a time frame to count on.

The last public figure chirping about his hopes hasn't fared too well, doesn't mean this will come to pass.

AT&T's data coverage has actually gotten a lot better in my area this year. But AT&T and verizon rates are ridiculous with about $100/mo (with tax) for a decent smartphone plan. I might switch to tmobile or sprint.

To take away sales of Android phones me think.

iPhone is on T-Mobile in other countries. It is also the only other GSM carrier in the US, so it won't require any changes to the hardware.

I think Verizon is 10 times better than AT&T can ever dream of being.

AT&T coverage in my ENTIRE state 0% (can roam in very small areas) AT&T 3G Coverage in my state 0% EDGE coverage 0%

Verizon....almost the whole state and it's all 3G speeds......need I say more?

Oh....T-Mobile doesn't exist either.....

Yeah, as soon as somebody starts making wild statements like 0% and throwing it out like it must be fact means they probably don't have a clue.

VERIZON SUCKS!

Yeah, well in my area AT&T sucks horribly signal wise, and Verizon works great... so its a very opinion based comment

I agree with you, I like to take big road trips and I want to make sure that I have 3g coverage wherever I go(inside the US of course) so verizon is the choice for me, also their customer service is second to none, I have never had a single problem with them. Needless to say I won't be getting an iPhone I have sort of a vendetta against apple, I am one of the rare breed that has a zune hd.

My current phone is a droid eris and I love it(except for the fact that I am stuck using Android 1.5.....

I'll probably be switching to T-Mobile when the WinMo7 phones come out. They have a minimum hardware spec and everything so I can get the same basic phone from ATT or anywhere else, and T-Mobile's rates are better.

Can't wait to get rid of ATT.

While I actually prefer AT&T's service over T-Mobile's in my area, I think T-Mobile has better rates. Hopefully that might help to drive AT&T's down.

I agree with you @NeoTrunks I would like to see some competion which would hopefully be a win for customers from a pricing perspective.
