TechSpot: CoD Modern Warfare 2 Graphics Performance

The wait is over as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released worldwide this week. Developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, this is the sixth installment in the series and a direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

We expect Modern Warfare 2 to be just as hardware friendly as its predecessor despite the numerous engine enhancements. In our graphics card performance evaluation we'll be testing a large range of previous and current generation GPUs, both mainstream and high-end chips from the GeForce 9600GT and Radeon 3000 series, to the recently launched Radeon HD 5000 GPUs, dual GPU cards from Nvidia and ATI, and even a Radeon HD 5770 Crossfire setup to make up for a total of 19 different GPU configurations.

Needless to say, this should give you a perfect picture of how your current or prospective system will perform in Modern Warfare 2.

Looks amazing on my 8700m GT (SLI). Guess just like windows 7, you can make a game that doesn't require you to run out get a new computer just to play it. Good job, Game Of The Year!!!

Judging from the screenshot you chose not to opt out of the "disturbing" sequence or whatever. Scandalous.

Runs fantastic on my 4850 at 1680x1050. I was (maybe still kinda am) itching to get a 5850, but after seeing MW2 run almost flawlessly, I might just have to resist the upgrade itch since it just isn't needed.

I just got this yesterday and have some problems with it on my 9800s. I don't believe that the NVDIA drivers are allowing it to play SLI. I will have to try and add it as a profile to see if it helps, but at 1900 x 1080, I would lock up every 5 seconds. Thoroughly annoyed with that, as I have no problems playing COD4.

The game is oh so sweet though. So far my favorite is the snowmobiles.

the physics are better and the animations are better, but i didn't think the graphics were that much of an improvement over the last game. definitely nothing revolutionary.

The character models are leaps better. Also the textures, because of the streaming technology. The lightning is also a lot better.

Nothing revolutionary but a big improvement over the last.

This game does have pretty sweet graphics. vGameU.org even says that the game's graphics and content will cause players to have increased aggression and cause them to spend hours on end in the game. but I don't feel like I get that into the game when I play.
