'The Sims' to move from PC screen to silver screen

Electronic Arts Incorporated has sold the movie rights for The Sims for an undisclosed sum to News Corporation-owned 20th Century Fox. The Sims is one of EA's biggest franchises and, including sequels and expansions, has sold nearly 85 million copies since it debuted seven years ago. The Sims was created by legendary game designer Will Wright, known for his quirky titles that eschew linear storylines in favour of letting players create and explore their own worlds. "The Sims has done an interactive version of an old story, which is what it's like to have infinite power and how do you deal with it," said Rod Humble, head of The Sims Studio at EA.

Honestly, if they can turn this into something worthwhile, they have my attention. This is sad, very sad.

it should just be an hour of a few sims in a little room with no bed, food, or toilet, and then just watch them die...

lmao, if this movie really goes through, it will be a strange movie, I love the sims, but i'm not too keen on the idea for a movie.

A Hollywood studio has the rights to an EA game.

The only way the end result could be any worse is if Uwe Boll is hired to direct it.

Indeed, in fact its a boring game, think in World of Warcraft without level, magic, monster to kill and weapons the results will be SIMS.

You can just imagine some Matrix style plot, Sims becoming aware of their own digital existence and their struggle to break free. They should hire me *cough*

It could be the next Toy Story. Or one of those Disney movies.

I don't mean it will be good. But I'm sure they want to go for that sentimental angle. It's not like they're going to make a horror movie out of it.

The Sims: Chainsaw Massacre

Word on the street is Fox is hiring Uwe Boll to direct!

This is from a memo that's circulating around the Fox higher-ups.

You know this is going to be amazing work with him at the helm!

It's called Simlish and it's not actually noise. From what I remember it's a mix of French, Spanish and some gibberish. So it's not all noise. Some people can actually speak it. Which is kinda scary.

The group Depeche Mode actually re-done one of there songs in Simlish.

These people are going to have kids... that's swell.

Exactly. Except now, you're taking away the Interactivity part, which leaves the old story.

Sims would clearly work better as a TV series then any old movie IMO.

I think they know that every 9 year old girl who plays the sims will see it anyway no matter how big a turd it is. its worked for all the expansions...

Oh boy... EA teaming up with Fox. They're gonna need a backhoe and dump truck to shovel THAT steaming load...

If they do this right, which we know they obviously won't, it could actually work. But since Hollywood loves to ruin franchises, we can already expect this to suck like a vietnamese prostitute. Only difference is it won't love us long time.
