UK government plans to monitor Facebook

Following on from their plans to monitor all communication in the UK, and storing it on a central database the government have decided to go one further. The home office has recently said that social networking sites such as Facebook, Bebo or MySpace need to be monitored in order to 'tackle crime gangs and terrorists who might use the sites'. As with the previous plans they are not storing or even reading the contents of conversations, only who people are talking to.

Liberal Democrat MP Tom Brake is concerned about the potential of the information leaking. He was also caught by The Independant referring to a similar plan as 'most expensive snooper's charter in history'. He goes on to talk about how social networks contain data such as religion and sexual orientation that the Government shouldn't be able to monitor.
