Unboxing: Nokia Lumia 520

At MWC 2013 back in February, Nokia announced two Windows Phones that would fill out the currently Lumia line-up: the Lumia 720, and the Lumia 520 which I have with me now. It's the lowest-end Windows Phone 8 device that Nokia offers, and also the cheapest (it's $250 at MobiCity, who were kind enough to send one out), so it'll be interesting to see how it stacks up against the Lumia 620 and HTC Windows Phone 8S.

For those people that like unboxing videos, here's a quick one of the Lumia 520, clad in vibrant red. There's also some first impressions of the device hidden in there, so check it out of you want to see what the Lumia 520 is like after 5 minutes in my hands.

Expect to see a review of the Lumia 520 up on Neowin in the coming weeks, but in the meantime you're welcome to follow me on Twitter to get some tidbits about the device as I go about reviewing it.

This kind of unboxing videos are simply normal, if people liked it, that means smartphone should be choose carefully with the help of experts, wise people ain't gonna buy phones blindly... Because the review from such experts (like you i.e the uploader of the video) can help people decide what's suits them best, therefore it helps them decide what phone they should buy, through your money and knowledge.. As economy is different everywhere around the world, this kind of videos could be an important matter of decision for mid-range people, especially in our region.. I have done that kind of things too... So, through your knowledge, keep on helping people.. Goodluck.. And NICE VIDEO...

The T-Mobile version is selling well apparently on HSN for $150. I'm thinking of getting 2 for my kids just for the games they like to grab my phone for(Android and iOS are not an option in our household). Since it is a good value and I can set them up for wifi access only It might be a good deal for me since I won't have to give up my 920 anymore.

I grabbed one this morning from HSN. Does anyone know where I can buy the red backplate as an a la carte purchase? I searched eBay and Google to no avail.

I know its in the small print but just from looking at the box its not immediately obvious what colour will be inside, it should have a single picture of the 520 of your choice.

That would add expense with little to no gain.

Sorry for wanting it to match the standard of Apple, HTC boxes, etc. Also it would make it look nice in the window of CEX.

Even I don't know, but as people keep watching them, I'll keep making them

I dont watch them but IMO....

Give people a real view from a regular person other that photo leaks or pics posted online. Shows what is in the box as well and many are like a mini review.

I've often wondered - why do people like these kinds of videos?

To be honest I really admire the packaging for some of these products. That's what I'm interested in.
