Used iPhone 3GS on sale at AT&T for $9

The world continues to wait for Apple to officially announce something about the launch of the fifth version of its best selling iPhone. The current bets have the iPhone 5 being officially revealed in September. Meanwhile both AT&T and Verizon are busy selling the iPhone 4 starting at $199 for a two year contract. AT&T has also been selling the iPhone 3GS, first launched in June 2009, for just $49.

But if you want to get your hands on the cheapest iPhone, at least in official circles, you can do so now with a newly revealed offer from AT&T. Their web site store has announced that it is selling a refurbished versions of the 8 GB iPhone 3GS for a mere $9 with a two year contract. Yes, the phone is two years old and its not a totally new model but if you are so desperate to get an iPhone with official support from AT&T this is the cheapest way to do so.

According to the web site, AT&T's definition of "refurbished" phones are "previously owned devices that have been unused or lightly used and returned during the 30-day trial period." It adds, "Some refurbished iPhone 3G devices will have minor scratches." While the phones will have a warranty AT&T does say that it is based on the original date the phone was purchased. So if you decide to get this version of the iPhone 3GS your warranty length could be 90 days or it could be shorter than that.

"The world continues to wait for Apple to officially announce..."

"The world" isn't waiting on anything so inconsequential and trivial as the latest luxury/vanity phone's release...

Wow, sounds like a bargin.... You gotta pay $9 outright for an out of date phone, and STILL have to take a 2 year contract.... Where do I sign !

They can sell to u a phone with a two-year contract and without warranty?

Sounds a bit crazy, but there's no law against it. Even just now if you buy a phone on a two year contract you still generally only get a years warranty...

This is what I hate about US telcos, they are not upfront about the total minimum costs that you are signing up for with 2-year service contract. Roll a dice and "Trust us".

I think you need minimum $15 data plan.

iPhone 3GS will be supported by iOS 5 :-)

Have fun if it's anything like iOS 4 support on the iPhone 3G.

Based on beta experiences, it's not. Not even nearly.
It actually runs like iOS4 with almost all the new features, well except the few glitches and lags due to the beta OS but these will be fixed by the final version.

I think the bigger issue is the 8GB storage, which is enough for approximately nothing nowadays... Sync a few albums, install some quality games and a navigation and it's already full.

It isnt, it gets pretty much all of what iOS 5 has to offer.

I think what he means is that itll probably slow down your phone to unusable speeds, which is what iOS 4.0 did to the 3G...
