uTorrent 3.4.2 Build 31633

utorrent

µTorrent is an efficient and feature rich BitTorrent client for Windows sporting a very small footprint. It was designed to use as little CPU, memory and space as possible while offering all the functionality expected from advanced clients. µTorrent was written with efficiency in mind. Unlike many torrent clients, it does not hog valuable system resources - typically using less than 6MB of memory, allowing you to use the computer as if it weren't there at all. Additionally, the program itself is contained within a single executable less than 1.0 MB in size.

What's new in this version:

  • Fix: Update comment and "creation date" and "completed on" fields in Info Tab

Please note, µTorrent version 3.4.2 no longer gives users the opportunity to disable the The 'µTorrent Plus' advertisement.

If I update to this version, will any of the ads that I have disabled, return? I'm asking because this comment from the article made me weary.

"Please note, µTorrent version 3.4.2 no longer gives users the opportunity to disable the The 'µTorrent Plus' advertisement."

You can hide that part by hiding the whole sidebar. In the end, it is not an ad, but more like a button to upgrade to the "pro" edition of the app.

You'd think that they'd release a torrent of the client.

Does everybody else get different installers from their download link?

I got the right one, of course it came bundled with a few undesirable things.

stick to 2.2.1. it not as if the older versions stop working or anything.

If you download from their stable download link multiple times, it sometimes gives you different files that are marked as the same build. The best guess I have is that they have multiple variants of bundles and it varies depending on which server you end up downloading from.

Only if you use the sidebar, can't disable the Plus ad, everything else is still killable. If you don't need the RSS stuff for example, you'll never see it.

That said, I don't much care for where this is going. I get including them to cover dev costs, but shoving it down your throats with no way to back out? Nah, back to Tixati for me, which is a pity as I still think uTorrent's the best client of them all. Could just not upgrade too of course, but missing out on improvements and bugfixes.

Eh I can read what the installer says, still the best client IMO. Lots of software bundle random crap with it, doesn't actually install anything unless you let it.
