Video shows how much better GTA V looks on PS4 compared with PS3

Alongside its announcement that Grand Theft Auto V would finally be making its way to the PC later this year, Rockstar also delighted owners of next-gen consoles by confirming that the game is coming to the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

So far, GTA V has only been available on the PS3 and Xbox 360, but its leap to the newer generation will, as you would expect, bring some considerable improvements in how the game looks, making the city of Los Santos and its outlying areas in the great state of San Andreas feel just that little bit more real.

BGR spotted a video that was posted yesterday on YouTube, which compares the look of the upcoming PS4 version with that of its predecessor. Unsurprisingly, the new version looks even more awesome than the digital environment that PS3 gamers have been enjoying for several months now.

There's so much more detail in the PS4 version, with individual blades of glass beautifully rendered where the PS3 makes do with more basic textures. Lighting details are much richer and more complex on the PS4, and there's also far more activity around the city, with more traffic and pedestrians making the metropolis seem busier and more 'alive'.

It's not like there's anything wrong with the game on the PS3 - as on the Xbox 360, it looks absolutely lovely - but let's face it, the PS4 version just looks better, and Xbox One owners will hopefully be able to look forward to similar improvements later this year.

For now, check out the full video below to see the comparisons in all their digital glory:

Looking good. Should be even more immersive. The attention to detail and the pure amount of power they managed to squeeze out of a ageing gen was astounding.

I'm thinking they'll be trying really, really hard to get this right and i'm expecting it to feel even more enjoyable than the 360 version i had.

Only choice now is... XB1 or PC...

akkk I hate the grass all it ever does for me in every game is make it so when I drop something I don't find it again lol

So like me in real life then? :p

Framerate! Framerate! Framerate! They need to increase the Framerate!
I went blind on the 360 version!

Frame rate was rock solid for me on 360. I mean I'd love this next gen version to be 60 fps, but I don't think that's going to happen.

Mandosis said,
The framerate did suck and made it a little hard to drive. I am hoping for 1080p@60fps on the xbox one with AA.

Are you playing on PS3? I hear the frame rate was quite unstable on PS3.

For me on 360, the frame rate did not suck at all. It is absolutely fine I don't see much if any instability. Unlike GTA IV for example.

I certainly hope they intentionally dropped the frame rate for this video, and that it's not that low on the actual console. What was that, 10-12 fps? WTF?

Youtube videos only play at 30fps regardless of the captured framerate. We will not know the real framerate until they tell us or the game is released.

The video I watched was way, way under 30fps. Or maybe it *was* 30fps, but was playing back in slow motion. sumthin' like that anyway.

I'd imagine that's just youtube playback messing up on you. I downloaded the proper high bit rate version & it's a clean 30fps.

Well that's just weird then. I've watched hundreds of YouTube videos on the same machine, and this is the only one that played back slowly. I did NOT, however, try to download it.

The good thing about this game is that well, it's a good game. So for those that haven't played this yet on the 360 and PS3, are going to be in for a real treat with uprated graphics that really help bring this game to life moreover what is already has done.
This definitely isn't one of those times where millions are spent on polishing a turd, and at least there's clearly a difference in the graphics rather than the usual comparison rubbish where people pick over how much clearer a shadow looks on one console versus another.

Gotta say those are some awesome looking improvements there. Can't wait for the PS4 version to come out now, will happily play this again.

Nice, but what many people are going to want to know is, if they had the PS3 version, and upgrade to the PS4 version will there be any way to port their save game over?

I know to see all the fancy new graphics they'd like everyone to play through it all again, but that's seriously time consuming...

Yes. They said so at E3.

The online stuff will carry over, but doubtful the same goes for the single player.

4K PC master race signing in. what's going on?

oh you're impressed by your low end PS4 graphics rig that can't even do 2K.
lol

4K PC master race signing out.

You had to pay $2k-$3k to even have that kind of performance. Why are you PC gamers so petty..

Actually, he already should have paid 1k for the graphics card since 4k is hard for even 290x + another grand for a monitor + other components.

I'm a PC gamer but these punks should just keep their mouth shut.

I'm glad someone said it.

lol i know everytime i see a pc person post something about doing 4k i just have to shake my head. There is just no way you can push those kind of shadows and textures at 4k without spending ATLEAST a grand on the video card alone. You are going to need ATLEAST a 300 dollar cpu with 200 dollar motherboard. Another 200 for the damn powersupply you need to power it and another 200 for enough ram. Oh and go ahead an add another 2-300 for a ssd because after all that your not going to go cheap on a dang hdd. And now 150 for a case awesome looking enough to be worthy of putting that crap in. Now tack on another 200 atleast for water cooling that thing cause you know your going to want to overclock the crap out of it. so what we are at like 2550 now and you still dont have a monitor that can do 4k and be worthy of that kind of rig so go ahead and tack on another 1000 for that bad boy and we got about 3550 invested one awesome rig and only half the games to actually play that are any good compared to a 500 console and anywhere from 100 to 1000 for the tv that most already have anyways that can do 1080p

Amen brother. It's getting pretty embarrassing being a PC gamer at the moment :(

And PS4 vs Xbone? :v

I imagine the PS4/XB1 version will look mostly like the PC version, maybe a lower res, less AA. Rockstar really pushed last gen consoles for GTA 5 and the 360/PS3 versions were better than each other in certain areas.

It's clearly not due to processing power, the next gen consoles can do much more graphically. Seems like another case of a studio being pushed on deadlines.

Wow thats incredible, can't wait for Ubi's reasoning on that one

If i was Ubisoft i'd hold my hands in the air and wait for the person who made this decision to be sacked.

No one is trolling here.

But omfg, did you see the framerates in that video?! Sliiiiiiiideshow!

On a more serious note, is it just me or does the PS4 graphics look overly sharp. I know they're definitely too blurry on the PS3 but it does add a certain kind of realism, more like it was shot through a dirty lens... hard to get across what I'm saying but I hope you know what I mean!

Ocean looks sexy, I think that's my favorite part. But, I have mentioned before that I hope that developers can create reality-like physics with the water interacting with each other around the entire city, something that actually affects the shores and possible so fourth.

they can, but they never (at least not for a while) will, you guys talk about your PC's as if you're gonna get the best games, but the only things that are going on right now are server's that don't exist for an hour because you guys try to mod everything

Some one could build the most powerful gaming console ever thats even more powerful than the best pcs and it would have 1 or 2 showcase games that suck and thats because the install base would be so incredibly low and it would take to long to build up a decent one like pcs have because of the damn price and it would die and take the company with it because no developer is going to spends millions or even thousands producing a game thats going to sell 500 copies in the first month.

Lets face it the pc install base would be non existent if pcs were for gaming only and didnt do anything else. Don't mistake my comments for being anti pc though as I am one of those people that upgrades every year because i have an addiction with having to have all the latest tech.

neonspark said,
they can, on the PC. you know, the gaming platform not suck with graphics we had for 4 years as something new.

There's no need for this BS. Many people choose to game on ~Consoles and many choose to game on PC. I choose both and comments like yours make me embarrassed to be a PC gamer.
