Wal-Mart Zune Comes With Free Porn

It's not the first time, nor the last, that people will find porn on (supposedly) new or recycled consumer electronics. This time it happened to a family in Southside Chicago who purchased Microsoft's Zune from the local Walmart for their 12 year-old daughter.

The daughter, who says the box looked like it had been opened (the charger was missing) discovered that her player contained porn. When confronted, the Walmart store manager initially blamed Microsoft for the pre-load. Later, a Walmart spokesman said they would investigate the matter and provide the couple with a full refund plus a $25 gift card, presumably to pick up a copy of "My Two Daddies" to help the mother explain to her daughter why the "5 men were having sex with each other." Uh, "join the social" Microsoft?

WTF? How on earth is its microsoft's fault...unless somebody infected their manufacturing computers with viruses that load pornography on every thing to leave microsofts production factories...

Maybe we'll find pornography in vista too :P:P

This has nothing to do with technology anyway. It's the same as buying a scrap book and finding that someone has made sketches inside. Probably could be avoided by going to a more exclusive store, eh?

;)

sounds like a scheme someone could use to get themselves a free zune after "return rebate"... just go in with some kid (cousin or something) say it had pr0n in it and bam have your money your zune and merry xmas

that's another reason why not to shop in Wal-Mart.

I was a witness one time how the customer returned the used electrical toothbrush, and as soon as customer left, the toothbrush was retuned back on the shelf.... yack!

So did the parents actually complain about this or are they mad because nobody told them about the "feature".
If this catches on, Apple is gonna start selling iPorn... preloaded gay porn... that's gotta be a million dollar industry.

Apple already tried with this aproach some time ago, with the iMac for "lovers", check it out http://www.bbspot.com/News/2000/7/new_macs.html

Recently while packing for a trip I found that the pants I had brought the previous day had a small tear on the back.
I immediately returned the pants.

While on the flight I remembered that I had put a pack of CONDOMS in one of the pockets.
The pants was returned along with the CONDOMS.

Felt bad about it later on.

Were they used?

Yuck. Who in the right mind would take used condoms on a trip?
Never used still in the packaging.

ahh no big deal ;)

Its funny how some people get all... awkward... when around condoms though- i went to get a card for my gf for xmas from shoppers.. and some condoms. my friend comes in with me and as soon as i stop in front of the condoms (he was following) he turns all red and marches straight out of the store looking completely embarrased. jeeze... some people are waaay too uptight! :P

That's not uptight, that's being immature. I have a friend that is like that too, such a child. If me, couple of my friends joke around about anything sex related he acts like a 2 year old about it. Some people just can't handle having fun.

What was gross? Finding out that particular Zune had gay porn on it or the comment AMDMEFX-55?

I laughed my a** off at the comment.

:P

Its a no ****n brainer we all know wal-mart takes back everything. Some gay guy had it and loved it but could not afford it. So he took it back with gay porn still on it. I wounder if it was the "brown" Zune lol.

Thats some funny crap, ah just send her over the the lemonparty website. That news desk reporter is one manly looking woman, just delete the porn and move on with your life.

It's not Microsoft's fault, its Wal-mart's and the person responsible who repackages these things and test them before they put them back on the shelf. They don't care anyways, they make minimum wage which is a little more than $5/hr in the US.. lol..

Quote - Danrarbc641 said @ #26.1
Actually the starting pay rates vary from region to region.

But the general minimum wage is just over $5/hr. Apprently that's going to change soon, I agree its not enough.
I feel sorry for those who get paid less than $8/hr.

My friend who works at futureshop up here in ottawa said that people sometimes buy them and use them for some trip or something, fill them with porn as a joke and then return them and they dont get wiped occasionally... then they get re-sold. He said a family came in and started complaining to him once about the same thing.

Mainly because recycled earbuds aren't exactly sanitary.

I am kinda thinkin that the Zune player wouldn't exactly be sanitary either...seeing as portable porn only has one purpose.

Funny as hell though....I wouldn't have been upset and we have three daughters. We all would have watched it, laughed our asses off then returned it back to Walmart. It would have made more sense to embarrass the hell out of the manager then to concern myself with "the accident" of our daughter running across porn.

This is funny...laff

The parents need to check this stuff before they give it to their daughter. I dont know about most kids, but most 12 year olds I know dont know how to setup these things.

The article isn't blaming Microsoft. That last comment is just a funny one thrown in there, but it's obviously Wal-Mart's fault.

i SERIOUSLY doubt it was Microsoft's fault, I mean comon you guys know what Walmart does with returned items? High value items are "tested" adn reboxed and placed on the shelves as new! how do i know this? I know people that are told to do it! I bet you anything someone bought one put that on said screw this and returned it to Walmart, they repackadged it as "new" and resold it... I had this happen to me with an iPOD nano at walmart! I bought a "new" one and it had someones name already as the ipod label (the name your ipod stuff) right out of the box! took it back they claimed it was brand new and they dont repackadge, I told them I know for a fact they do because someone who i know who worked there (didnt say any names to get anyone fired) was told to repackadge items... they gave me a "new" one then which turned out to be brand new... but I mean comon i know they do this with shoes too! if you go down the women's shoe isle and look at the quality of the bottoms of the shoes, a lot of them are already worn in... you can tell they are reshelved returns..

Here is what happened:
- Customer buys Zune,
- Cusomter loads on porn,
- Customer is too dumb to use Zune and returns it,
- Wal-Mart asks - have you use it?
- Customer says - no........
- Wal-Mart resells Zune,

"Ma-an the iPod is gay "

lol so true.

but then again, the iPod doesnt come pre-loaded with squat. Apple wants you to spend your money buying everything off of iTunes.

Quote - acxz said @ #16.1
Yeah. I mean, what would everyone be saying if one of Apple's iPods came pre-loaded with gay porn?
If it was a Walmart return unit they'd be saying

"it's walmarts fault"

Exactly. You wouldnt buy your kid a DVD for xmas only to watch the entire movie plus all the extra footage just to make sure nothing got onto it somehow.

If people buy it new then they should quite rightfully expect it comes either blank or the only media on it is that supplied by MS.

Does not surprise me... I beleive no one but Wall Mart is to falt... You would easily find 5 guys going at it on a Zune... hell just look out of the corner of your eye and you'll see 5 guys going at it... anyway my point is Porn is so common that it is not a shock that some device like the Zune may be returned without a format. Wall Mart the needed to take the responsibility to check that devices condition, no ?

lol so funny. but yeah this is Wal-mart's fault for not checking the device before they put it back on the shelf. the person returning it could have broke it completely and Wal-mart would not have known unless they checked the device by actually plugging it in.

Do we actually know that the porn was on the thing at the time she opened it? Because it sort of sounds like her mum found it and she made up a story...

In the video they said they had proof that the video was on there before they bought it (Something like a week ago).

My guess is that the Zune has file dates like Windows.

Time stamps on the files of when everything was created is what it sounds like to me.

Besides that, why would the girl hand it to her mother with porn on it telling her to look at it if she had put it on there?

zune and the iPod both have created time stams on files... so easy to tell when a file was created all you have to do is mount it as a drive on the iPod, not sure how you mount the zune as a drive, never tried it yet, but im sure MS knows how to read its drive

I was under the impression that the mounting instructions were contained on the free video the purchaser found on the Zune?

You can easily change the clock on a computer back to a week ago or to a week from now. Create and save a bunch of files. Restart and change the clock back to the present time and those files will keep that date.

Something doesn't sound right about this story at all.

Doesn't the Zune box have shrink-wrap on it? No shrink-wrap on the box would've been the first thing I noticed. Also, most packaging for PC items have labels holding the top and bottom closed. You can't peel those off without ripping the packaging unless you use a razor or something to cut the little slit.

If it's true they actually bought it and porn was already on it, they should have noticed it had already been opened.

That's the best joke on this entire page Instead of a stupid Wii joke, you got creative

The kind of comment like

is a bit stupid.. since it's not microsoft fault that walmart guys play with the toys they have on store!!!

Yea that is a pretty dumb comment.

Just a joke. Hell it beats more of those "I'll play with my Wii" jokes that people above are using. Because Wii was ever a term to refer to a part of the male anatomy :ponder: ...

I honestly don't understand the desire to want porn on your portable devices. I mean...who needs to get it on with them selves on the bus or train?

This is not Microsoft's fault. Walmart puts crap back on the shelves all the time, and they will give a refund for anything. Even if someone took a dump in a zune box, they would put it back on the shelf and try to sell it.

They sometimes require you to give a reason why you're returning it:
"When I picked it up it felt moist and fell apart in my hands..."

Wal-Mart really is bad on taking back any item.

My girlfriend works at one and she said people bring in stuff that obviously didn't come from a Wal-Mart and get refunds. She said some guy brought in a bunch of opened DVD's once and got refunds. Later on that night when someone finally thought to check to see if any DVD's were actually in the cases, they all had Blockbuster stickers on them

Come to find out the guy rented mass DVD's from different Blockbusters in the area and printed his own labels for the cases and returned them. They never found out who he was

According to my iPod-owning fanatic of a friend, thats what MS did to create the Zune in the first place

Erm...zune's don't have chargers...

thats what I was thinking too... we just purchasd the home kit for ours (we have zune and ipod) and that came with a charger... but the standard one works like the iPod and charges via powered USB...

I blame WalMart for not marking it as used (most likely a return) and I also blame the parents. First it looked like it had been opened (I always look at the seals before I throw items in my cart), and the charger was missing (I would have returned it right then). Why keep it and give it to your kid with missing parts?

Then again with all the scams going around I wouldn't be suprised if the partents wern't involved to get a little lawsuit in.

so you are telling me that you would open your (say your daughter's) present to make sure that it came with a charger and then reseal it?? come on... Have you seen the ZUNE packaging? you don't know if it has seals or some sort.

Walmart should've returned that to MS after the return was made period. Every return needs to go back to the manufacturer

Umm...

"The daughter, who says the box looked like it had been opened (the charger was missing) discovered that her..."

Couldn't the parents have looked at the box before purchasing it? Checking the box could have prevented this from happening. I believe it's the customers who pick the item to be gift-wrapped.

Simply checking the externals of the box wouldnt have shown a missing charger and quite likely wouldnt have revealed it was a resold item. Sure some people may check what's inside but is that the first thing every parent does?

Even if the charger is missing you seriously wouldnt try and have a look at the toy before returning it? Hell at least it gives you the ability to try it out and if you dont like it you can probably throw a fuss to get a refund in the case the stores policy didnt allow that.

Gosh, you people need to do a little bit of research (or get a popular mp3 player) because ipods, zunes, and vision: Ms... don't come with chargers, they come with usb cables.

I just don't see how people could buy something that doesn't have its original seal. Maybe that's just me then. If I want to see the thing working, I would ask them to open it for me so I can see it work properly. I mean it's the customer we're talking about here. Walmart is here to sell. They got a business to run. Customers need to be aware of what they're buying.

Even after this if you find porn, then you have a case on your hands.

Predsumably the child knew nothing about gay sex before, and now she does. Sounds like education in one form of sex to me...

And your point is... what exactly? I'd certainly consider buying one media player over another if it came pre-loaded with gay porn! :cheeky:

I think it's horrible that the mother gave the daughter a Zune that had been opened, used, and was missing the charger. I'm sorry but if you open a box that looks like it's been tampered with and is missing stuff then you need to take that back to the store before you do anything with it. Booting it up and loading the file called "5 Men ****ing" is just retarded.
