Walmart to sell "The new iPad" at 12:01 am tonight

Do you live in the US and want to get your hands on "The new iPad"? Do you want to go to a store and pick it up nearly eight hours before anyone else in the country can get their hands on it? Finally, do you have a Walmart nearby that's open 24 hours? If so, you might want to consider going over to that store right now.

News.com reports that Walmart locations that are normally open 24 hours will begin selling Apple's third generation iPad tablet at 12:01am in the stores' respective time zones. A Walmart spokesperson says that, naturally, supplies of The new iPad will be limited. Also, the numbers of the six different types of iPads will vary from store to store, so keep that in mind before you head over to your local Walmart location.

Walmart stores that are not open 24 hours will begin selling "The new iPad" starting at 8am in their respective time zones. As we reported earlier, Apple retail stores will also open their doors at 8am Friday to begin sales of the tablet in the US, along with a number of other retail outlets such as Best Buy, Radio Shack, Sam’s Club and Target.

Local Craigslist here already showing people trying to offload 16GB Wi-Fi units for $650!! After tax here, it's only $537.49... *sigh*

I think its disturbing that not only around Thanksgiving and Christmas do people literally camp out at a walmart waiting for a sale to begin but also when significant games and electronics come out. I mean I love technology and stuff too, don't get me wrong, but its a waste of money to get something as soon as it comes out. Wait until they get the kinks worked out and the price drops a bit and order a mint condition used one online; I think is the way to go.

This is an iPad. The price won't drop until the next generation comes out for a new/mint.

Why hasn't Microsoft pushed out something to counter the ipad? You would think they would get in before everyone has one and isn't going to make another purchase.

Well, there was that whole Consumer Preview Launch, including a 90 minute presentation filled with MS execs, followed by free downloads for anyone in the world. I don't think it would've mattered what they did, though. Right now Apple's mobile division is an unstoppable force.

They sort of did, but killed it before it even came out...

why not do what normal people do and open up the store at 9am insted of doing a "one past midnight" launch. they will still sell out becasue of the limited stock that apple have provided so they can say "look we sold out on day 1"

Define "normal" people. Most walmarts are open 24 hours. The ones that don't open at 7am.

Haven't seen one of these in ages. All the ones around here, even in the small towns, are 24/7.

Most are going to 24 hours.

its gonna be the same ipad as you will get in the stores, just no long lines with people coughing all over the place. Kids skipping school etc. You are in and out and on with your life.

but this is the new Apple. for many, they do not have an apple store near by so third party resellers are the best bet. Want to be apple exclusive them better return to the 90s.
