Walmart: Xbox Arcade and $100 gift card for $199 on Nov. 7

Rumors have been going around recently regarding a supposedly upcoming Walmart deal, in which an Xbox 360 Arcade will be up for offer, along with a $100 gift voucher, for $199. All of a sudden this morning, the retailer has confirmed the deal, scheduled to hit on Saturday, November 7.

According to Kotaku, the deal will last for just one day, and is part of what will be regularly weekly deals leading up to the retail bonanza that is Black Friday. As noted by Walmart, the sale will begin at 8:00 AM, and will (as mentioned) last for just one day. Kotaku stated, "We're told that this is Walmart's attempt at pulling a little of the focus off that huge shopping day and trying to spread the wealth over the entire month," suggesting that more gaming related deals could be on the way.

If you're planning on picking up an Xbox 360 Arcade at any point, this Saturday is the time to do so. Of course, there are other offers going at the same time on the same day, so have a look at the Walmart page for those.

Reading redflagdeals.com (great site for Canadians!), it's American only. However, it's worth crossing the border for this deal. I bought my 60GB 360 the other week for $229 with 2 games. Not bad, but considering one can use the gift card towards a hard drive, this is a great price.

So wait..

Q1. If you don't want the hard drive this is $99.99 + whatever taxes?
Q2. What can you NOT do without the hard drive?

You pay $199 for the 360 and you get it along with a $100 gift card which you can use to buy anything else you want (at Wal-Mart of course).

The hard drive isn't part of the deal in any way, someone just mentioned you could use the gift card to buy one. The 360 works fine without it and no games actually require it, but it's much nicer with one. It allows you to save downloaded content such as demos and videos, and gives you the ability to install games to the hard drive for faster loading (you still must have the game DVD in the drive to verify you own it).

Yeah, You don't need the hard drive. You would need it for game add ons and downloads of course. I think you would need a memory card to save games unless I'm mistaken. I've never played my XBox without the hard drive attached, so I may be wrong. You may want to confirm that though because I'm sure you'll want to save to something...

Just an fyi in regards to the gift voucher, in another forum I belong to, it was discovered it was for online use only at walmart.com and samsclub.com.

I'll have to buy an arcade this week to replace my newly RRODed 2nd xbox.

The swine stopped working two days into Bayonetta....

I'll make sure I get a Jasper this time......

Do they even stock anything but the Jasper units now? Seems like the older ones would be cleared out by this point.

You're probably right, but I'm still going to demand to check the back of the unit before I hand over my cash.

what do you mean by "getting a Jasper"? I'm unsure of what that entails.. please elaborate.

Jasper = the latest iteration of the 360. It has a 65nm processor, which uses less power, as well as an improved cooling system. By all accounts, it is far less prone to crashing or RRODing.

Thanks for your input. I've done a bit of reading and now feel like I know what you're talking about.

If I plan on taking advantage of this offer, what are my chances of getting a Valhalla box? And how might I check the product to determine if it is Valhalla, Jasper, or otherwise?

Got my Jasper!
There is no window on the arcade box, so you can't check the voltage. The guy in the shop said he could not open the box to check, nor could he guarantee it would be a new model. When pressed, however, he did tell me that the stock had come in quite recently, so I handed over the cash and am the proud owner of a super-cool Jasper.

As for Valhalla, isn't Microsoft saving that for a potential 'slim' version of the console?

It wouldn't make much sense to buy a console you don't want just for the gift card (which you still have to pay for).

Hmm...too bad they don't sell groceries online. My xbox RROD and i told myself I wouldn't be replacing it, but damn that is a good deal.

This was a great deal, my bro bought 2 this morning. One was a jasper unit and the other was a falcon. I modded both this morning and they were both Lite-on 83850c June 2009 <=
