I like it to me it's simple and people still know it's Microsoft. It doesn't give then attention away from the name.

Not big of a difference. I guess just more clean and colorful. Black looked too much like an anti-social company loool

I don't get it. It just looks like 4 colored squares. That's it. A child could make it. I wonder how many millions of dollars they spent, how many long meeetings in to the wee hours of the morning, how many more days wasted trying to choose the perfect colors. The Windows 8 logo is much cleaner, and actually does look like a Window. I'm with solardog; one resounding "meh".

Well, wouldn't a child be able to draw the Apple logo as well? And I haven't ever heard anyone say "meh" about that logo.

It's ok... there is nothing aesthetically "wrong" with it but at the same time it just doesn't stand out. Looks like a rush job.

It looks vintage. It belongs to the 90's.

That's what I love about it, the classic look and feel.

I kinda like it, but it doesn't scream a multibillion dollar software powerhouse as much as a new hardware store like home depot or lowe's. Doesn't this remind you all of a home store logo?

Looks like someone couldn't figure out Photoshop and just used MS Paint to design it in less time than it took to write this response. Minimalist and simplicity is one thing, this is quite another. I can understand M$ screwing up, it happens, I'm more amused at all the people defending it :-)

red = windows phone, green = xbox, blue = windows, yellow = office. It represents their four core products. I expect to see advertising where one of the window panes/tiles flips and we zoom in on "a day in life using xxxx."

It's hardly innovative, its just the windows 95 logo without the effects.

That exact logo was actually used in a few Windows 95 commercials.

So I guess all companies will end up with this new basic font. Should make copying it a whole lot easier. BTW why cant I edit my posts on here?

I didn't like it. Doesn't feel new, doesn't feel fresh.

Could have looked better all blue like the shade used in Windows logo.

Then what? You're left with four blue squares in a grid. At least the colors give it some form of identity. It's probably the only reason why the Windows and Office logos are in perspective, to give it a less standard appearance. Imagine what they would look like head-on. No way they could trademark it.

Personally, I think its taken a step back. Looks cheap and reminds me of their older software. There is also something cartoon'ish / kids show related about it.

The fonts ( Segoe, thinner, grey ) make it indeed, look cheap. They could place the logo near the old 'Microsoft' which seem more professional and powerful.

I don't know. I like it mostly, except I think the connected FT looks out of place. Aside from that though, yeah I like it. It's nice to see that Microsoft finally decided to have a logo too

I'm not sure yet. A truly powerful logo can carry the brand all by itself. Take the Apple logo: It's extremely simple, very recognizable, color independent, timeless and it does't require "Apple" standing next to it. I'm doubting whether those four squares will be able to convey "Microsoft" without text actually saying "Microsoft". If anything it screams "Windows".

And what part of MS is more important than Windows?

I don't like or dislike it outright, but it's cool that they changed it.

Well if you think Metro is the death of "Windows" and by windows I mean the idea of applications in a window not full screen then there is a lot of irony in the new logo.

Deep dark secret: you can still use all your windowed apps in the desktop.

My point is that Windows isn't the only product they sell.

That said I think it's weird Microsoft has a separate logo for everything. If you look at Apple they just have the Apple logo which encloses everything, which makes it much more powerful. With Microsoft you have the Microsoft logo, Windows logo, Xbox logo, Office logo etc.

Windows = Blue
Xbox = Green
Office = Orange
Phone = Red
All together they are the modern Microsoft

I think the use of the Windows logo completes their visual story (if that's what you'd call it). It's the most appropriate thing to use as their image.

I don't like the logo, but I love the logotype. It feels powerful and looks great on products like the Wedge keyboard.

I agree with you on the logotype but as for the logo I have to say its about time they changed it. The softer colours show the new Microsoft and would look good on any of their products!

the new logo is horrible and amateurish. Much like all of Windows 8 which seems to be a throwback to Windows 95 and CGA video resolution. Its a "back to the future" product - 20 years backwards step. They are a good match.
