Weekend Poll: Surface, Windows Phone 8 or Windows 8?

A week of giant Microsoft announcements has come to a close, and we saw the surprise announcement of the Microsoft Surface line of tablets along with the big Windows Phone 8 reveal just days later. Of course just several weeks earlier we also had the release of the Windows 8 Release Preview, which is setting up the last quarter of this year as a huge one for Microsoft.

This weekend we're asking you which product from Microsoft, expected to be released at the end of this year, has made you the most excited? You can choose from either the new Microsoft Surface tablets, Windows Phone 8 or Windows 8.

As always, leave your votes below in the poll and any feedback in the comments section. Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

As was discussed at beginning of topic, where's the 'None" option? I voted for Windows 8 though.

Don't need to play keep up with Jones' and get every new little toy that comes out and Windows 8 does not blow my hair back. Heck, I think it's totally stupid that MS is pushing a new OS already anyway. Almost getting to be as ridiculous as Linux, in that regard.

I don't get all the hype about Surface. I'd rather have a Transformer hybrid that gets 18 hours of battery life in Windows 8 because it has a second battery than have a Touch Cover on a device that only get 5 hours of battery on Intel and 10 hours on ARM. I'd also wager you get a much better keyboard and trackpad on the Transformer hybrid devices.

Asus Tablet 600 = 18+ hours battery (ARM)
Acer W510 = 18+ hours battery (Intel)
Asus Tablet 810 = 18 hours battery (Intel)
Surface = 10 hours battery??? (ARM)
Surface Pro = 5 hours battery??? (Intel Core)
Asus Transformer Book = 10 hours battery? (Intel Core)

You have no idea what the battery life is on the Surface tablets until Microsoft releases their full spec.

Windows Phone! DirectX games in your pocket. The Xbox 360 portable is finally here. Go look up N.O.V.A. 3 which has been announced for Windows Phone 8. This is just a small taste of what is coming to Windows Phone and Windows RT.

Oh and a 3rd party API for TellMe is going to mean tons of Windows Phone apps that use voice recognition.

NFC looks so cool. Making your phone aware of where it is and how it should be functioning just by touching it to a surface opens up a world of possibilities. I like for example just putting your phone in the car charger and automatically changing the interface into car navigation mode or placing it into a dock and switching into an alarm clock mode or tap it to a Nokia Play 360 speaker and jump into MP3 player mode. Samsung has NFC stickers that you can program yourself to make the phone function however you want.

Even though I voted Microsoft Surface. I am also eagerly awaiting Microsoft 8 Phone (I would rather see that naming instead of Microsoft Phone 8, but that's just my opinion). However the 3rd option is just the OS, while option 1 & 2 are devices that ship with the OS in the 3rd Option. Therefore there are only 2 options. So next time, please check the options before placing them, it would be nicer, if the 3rd option was another option, like Microsoft SmartGlass, that also requires Win8 to get the best experience, even though it will also support iOS & Android

They're all so great. I want my whole house to be made out of Microsoft products, all running various versions of Windows xD

I want to live in the Microsoft house, with digital wallpaper featuring Steve Ballmer and the Tweet Choir singing me lullabies at bedtime.

This time next year chances are very high I will own both a 128GB Surface pro and a Nokia Lumia WP8 device.. Windows 8 obviously tags along for the ride..

Definitely Surface. I will be upgrading to a WP8 device when they're eventually released, but not as interesting as Surface.. been using Windows on touch devices for years, can't wait for this new version.

Tough one here!! I said Surface, although I'm really interested in Windows Phone 8. However, my excitement is slightly dampened by the fact that my Lumia 800 won't run it

Windows Phone 8 because there's still an air of mystery about what other new features are coming to it and I'll no doubt pick one of them up before a Surface (yes, I know not all the information is out there yet). That said, I still very much want a Surface Pro.

Surface of course. Windows Phone 8 is cool too. Windows 8 is nice but almost a year passed since its dev preview, so I'm not excited about it anymore as I'm with Surface and WP8.

Thanks!

I rather get Surface. Windows 8 will and should be for mobile devices such as, mobile phones and tablets. Windows 7 rocks and should continue to be the mail OS for at lease a couple more years. Let Windows 7 live people!!!

by the end of 2012, MS will have a single core OS for phones, tablets, laptops, pc's, possibly game console (new xbox maybe), all tied into the best cloud service, already feature rich but with far far more to come. Exciting times.

I'm excited to get all of them for the tight integration between them. I think that is what is going to be the really exciting part

Still stuck with XP on a Surface? That's like driving a Lamborghini Aventador with wooden tires.

I didn't say which OS I will put on it. I might put XP or I might put Windows 7. As long as I get my work done, what business is it of yours besides making snide remarks? Considering that your profile says MS-DOS 6.22 & Windows 3.11, I think XP or W7 is pretty futuristic.

To be fair, as long as you don't mind a stylus (smaller controls that just doesn't have fingers in mind) 7 works quite well on a tablet, got a couple that run it very nicely. Not that I wouldn't drop them in a heartbeat for one of these and Win8 though. XP Tablet Edition on the other hand I'm not a big fan of.. it works (ish), got one junker that's stuck running it because of sorely outdated hardware. It works but 7 handles the touch thing a lot better.

Exactly. For multi-touch W7 FTW, XP is **** with touch. If you use a stylus instead of touch, XP Tablet PC edition also works. (And doesn't try to kill my productivity like Windows 8 does).

Although I love windows phone I would have to say Surface. I've been waiting for a windows tablet and now it's a reality.

This.

As much as I like the Surface, I'm still planning on getting an Asus Transformer Book. The TB just has the potential to replace my desktop as well as be my mobile solution. Both will have an Intel Core i7 processor, probably 4 GB of RAM, 64 and 128GB SSD options, but the TB will have the option of having a base with not just a keyboard, but a second HD, Descrete Nvidia Graphics (Hopefully 630 or 640), and extra battery life. While it will be thicker, I can live with that to be able to put my Steam Games on the HD in the base since I wouldn't play them in tablet mode. Yes it will be more expensive than the Surface, but it would be worth it to be able to have one device that could be ;my complete mobility solution.

I voted by necessity. I want all 3 but I really need to go Windows Phone 8 by the end of the year because my current HD7 has been in repair for 2 times already and I like all the new useful features that are presented in Windows Phone 8. Are any of them actually coming to the 7.8 update besides the new start screen? Otherwise I hope XDA developers create custom WP8 ROMs for WP7 devices.
Microsoft Surface I want as well, the Pro definitely or maybe the RT version based on the price.
Windows 8 will get here eventually.

well, win8 rp i got, wp7.5 i got but a tablet? no, i don't, and it's MS hardware, plain and simple... yeah i'm interested in wp8 and win8 but right now i just want to pre-order my Surface

This should be a multiple choice Poll. I wanted to vote #1 and 2.

I agree but I'll probably get a new WP8 device before I look at a Surface or upgrading my PC to Windows 8, which can wait for last at this point.

Agreed.

The resizing corner?

My point was, not everyone gets "excited" over hardware/software, hence the should be a "none" option

that could work pretty well too...
and if you're not interested don't click on the poll article, i don't go to some mac or android topic to whine about there's no "i don't give a crap" button

No, you just troll the Android articles shouting off about how much you hate it. Maybe you should lead by example.

if i've got a PROBLEM with a product (like android, wich is a crappy OS) i will display my opinion; if i have NO OPINION beacuse i'm uninterested i won't complain to include my non-existing opinion to a poll that is by definition not for me

It's called don't vote.

And if someone has a neutral view towards a product (because, for whatever reason, Microsoft didn't appeal to them through their advertising), then why should they not express that too?

The guy was just stating he wished there was an option present in the poll which represented the opinions of those who are not excited for any of these products. I know I am uninterested in any of these products; I do not like metro. I find it 'crappy' and do not like the way which Windows is developing (notice how I represent these as opinions and not as facts, unlike you who simply labelled Android as a 'crappy OS' as if it was a fact as opposed to your opinion).

I have a problem with your spelling. Your spelling is crappy. That is a fact.

Preface: I'm a Windows Phone guy. But, I fail to see the point of going into articles/threads about an OS you don't like and constantly proclaiming how much you don't like it. That seems rather... unsound to me. Logically speaking, If you don't like it, don't waste the time and energy to post there.

Would you have died if you didn't post this? It sure looks like that...
