What happens when you glue an iPhone 5 to the ground of a busy street?

The iPhone 5 was released today and unsurprisingly it's selling extremely well. Right now, everybody seems to want one, so iPhone5.nl wondered, why not prank them? The team got hold of an iPhone 5, purchased some super strength glue and decided to glue it to the ground of one of the busiest squares in Amsterdam, with hilarious results.

The iPhone 5 features a larger display than previous versions, coming in at 4-inches with a 16:9 aspect ratio, touch sensors integrated into the display, Apple's A6 chip, and LTE. The new iPhone has broken previous records with two million pre-orders in the first 24 hours. Earlier today it was also reported that $100,000 worth of iPhone 5 devices were stolen in Japan from three stores before the official release. Police are said to be investigating.

I just finished watching the video and I love the fact how little response they got from the general public. People see a smartphone lying on the ground, so they try to pick it up. Pretty normal response. Beyond that nobody went through great lengths, out of their minds or did weird stuff. Not even the drunk homeless guy could be bothered too much. It's Amsterdam, around here we're pretty relaxed about these things. They wasted away an expensive device and gained next to nothing by it. That's the truly funny thing about the video.

Leidseplein / Leidse Square. Pass it pretty much every day by tram. It's also where the Apple Store is located. When I change trams there tomorrow I'll check if it's still there. Probably not.

was waiting for something really funny to happen.. but it didn't.. could have been really good but if i'd just spent that sort of money on this gag i'd be disappointed.

If you pay enough attention, those guys doing that actually did this to make the video viral and promote their webshop.

I'd say, their investment surely will pay off, then again, I doubt that iPhone 5s need much advertising lol.
If anyone hears that a few can still be had without waiting for weeks, that info is going viral by itself, so yeah...

I know I just negated my own theory LOL

I did not get that lol, fair play then..

Shame on them for polluting the street with one of these LOL. Just a more expensive version of gluing a penny/nickel/dime/quarter on the sidewalk.

Overstating it somewhat I feel

Definitely. There's been too much hyperbole seeping into Neowin's news items recently.

Isn't it remarkable how well it blends well into the boring grey floor. It is as if it belongs there.

Bwahahah, that's hilarious

Seems like a waste to me. No matter the kind of phone.

After watching it again I would say the device used is fake. In one shot the buttons on the side appear to be silver, they aren't on the real black iPhone 5.

Yep, definitely not a real iPhone.
