WindowBlinds 6.2

WindowBlinds is an application that lets users easily change their Windows interface by applying a new skin. These "visual styles" can be applied across the entire user interface (title bars, push buttons, start menu, taskbar, etc.) of the operating system. As a result, users gain complete control over the way Windows looks.

What's new in version 6.2:

  • Improved compression on start menu animations
  • Animated wait screens during Apply
  • Enhanced layer support (accompanied by skin author support in SkinStudio 6.2)
  • Bug Fixes
WindowBlinds is available in both a free version and a an enhanced version which adds many additional features like the ability to change color/hue/brightness on the fly, change toolbar icons of IE and Explorer, and much more. WindowBlinds is available as part of Object Desktop.

I tried it out today on my laptop. It doesn't slow it down like the old version but the price tag is iffy. Plus you have to pay for wincustomize if you want over 50mb of themes (i guess thats fine since there's less than 50mb worth of good themes). The professional themes by pixel all cost money and making your own decent themes costs money because the free version of skin studio is very limited in functionality.

I also suggest that Stardock should stop using Wise for it's installer, because it can't uninstall without a reboot. And to give out the limited version without a time limit, why only allow 30 days for a feature crippled version?

no flames, just standard constructive criticism.

If you purchase WindowBlinds then you don't have a download cap on WinCustomize. That is part of being a current customer although a subscription entitles you to other things.

Or just delete your cookies and download another 50mg. Although 50mg is plenty to get all of the skins that are of any good quality at all you will not need more unless you are downloading dreamskapes.

The free version of SkinStudio isn't that limited to the Pro version.

The comparison can be found here:

I don't understand the logic in charging people to make (decent) themes for your software.

The free version of skinstudio is missing the things that make really nice looking flashy themes such as that wicked ass dragon.

Are you able to configure this thing to leave your wallpaper and icons alone? I just want to be able to change the actual VS.

WindowBlinds doesn't affect your icons, and although it has an integrated wallpaper manager, you can set it to where it doesn't change it.

Would have liked to check it out but alas it won't install on XPx64. The error lead me to the realization that I'd have to pay for the software in order to try it out.
