Windows 8 China Release Preview SKU screenshots leaked

As we approach the launch of the Release Preview version of Windows 8, yet another website claims to have received screenshots to one of the SKU versions. MyDrivers.com has posted up what it says are screenshots from the rumored China-only version of Windows 8.

In March, a rumor claimed that Microsoft was planning to launch a Chinese specific SKU for Windows 8. The rumor article speculated that this SKU version could be cheaper than the normal Windows 8 version to prevent software counterfeiting, which is known to be rampant in China.

These new screenshots not only show Windows 8 running but also a version of the Windows 8 Metro weather app for the Chinese market.

The article also claims that this version does not yet allow access to the Windows Store feature for Windows 8, most likely because Microsoft is waiting for the official Release Preview launch to turn on the Windows Store feature for Release Preview users.

Microsoft is still expected to launch the Windows 8 Release Preview build to the masses sometime in the first week of June; the company has yet to give a specific date for the Release Preview launch. As we have reported before, it will have the version number of 8400.

"Release Preview" means Release Candidate ?

Not really, there would be some tweaks and final UI in the RC that wont be avail on RP.

Good, my new 21'5 monitor is coming today, can't wait to test it with my laptop and make it as a dual screen as I've seen some neat features about it.

So we have two options;
1. learn chinese/mandarin and buy a cheap version of Windows.
2. Pirate the heck out of it so they reduce the cost of it in our country too.

Why does the Greatest American Hero's insignia appear next to the words "Windows 8" in the first screenshot?

That's not a insignia, "(中国)" is "(China)" in Simplified Chinese.

Am I the only one irritated by the use of the acronym SKU in this article. Sure, you can use SKU when talking about the final on-the-shelf version of an OS, but not for pre-release versions. The DP, CP and RP do not have SKUs. Sure, they can have different versions, but they don't have SKUs because they are not a product for sale.

Yes, you are the only one. What do you want him to say, pre-sku? It's the Chinese build version of the release preview so it's not fair to just plainly say release preview leaks as it is only one line of the product.
